It felt like a dream, the snow didn't hurt and it wasn't unpleasant, it was fun.
We were in the middle of the trees, running after each other, throwing snowballs at each other. I never thought playing this would be so much fun, usually we omegas were relegated to other types of games, like family or running a restaurant. That was fun too, but these types of games, these specific types of games, were also a lot of fun.
"Hey!" I groan with laughter as Theo throws a snowball directly at my face.
"I'm sorry, are you all right Nicholas?" He asks in a panic, approaching me quickly.
"What a fool you are" I said with a chuckle.
Still laughing, I put the thick wool blanket back on my shoulders, since I had dropped it with all the running we did just now. I don't know how long we were playing like that, but when we finally stop, I feel frozen.
"Well, that was fun, but we should go back" I suggest to Theo.
"Yes, your cheeks are very red, you should go back."
"Come with me, let's go back."
"I'll pass..."
I was confused, why didn't Theo want to come back? Even without touching him I could tell he was freezing to death, he spent a lot of time in the snow, even during a storm, and no matter what he still wanted to stay?
"Why don't you want to come back? Is it because the other kids are mean to you? Don't worry, my dad is an alpha, I'll tell him to beat them up for you..." I try to convince him.
"It's not that."
Theo sits down in the snow looking dejected, so I do too, staying at a safe distance from him. I don't know if we omegas are allowed to get that close to an alpha.
"What if I am a damaged object?" Asks Theo in a whisper.
"Object?"
"Everyone thinks I'm weird, because I can't play like them, and I can't talk the way they do. Maybe my parents were wrong to bring me with them, if they realize that they could send me back to the orphanage."
I didn't know the reason then, I was too small to fully understand the magnitude of the words Theo was saying. But seeing him sad hurt me, it felt like my omega was suffering for him.
So without thinking and instinctively, I stood up, approaching Theo to hug him. I think he was almost as surprised as I was, because omegas and alphas can't even talk when they're alone, so a hug is...
"My dad always says that a hug makes people feel better, are you feeling well?" I asked in a whisper.
"Do you smell that? Flowers... They smell good."
"No, I don't smell anything, how could there be flowers in the middle of the snow?"
"Do you smell like that? You smell very good..."
I can't help but blush when I hear it, Theo does get really weird sometimes.
"Alphas are cruel and mean, but Theo is different. And it's not bad to be different if it makes you good, if Theo is weird but he's better than the other alphas, I'm going to want to be his friend forever" I tell him trying to reassure him.
"Are you going to be my friend?"
"Yes, I promise, I will be your friend forever."
Finally separating from him, I watch as Theo smiles, and stares at me.
"You're my first friend" Theo says to me, a little embarrassed.
"And I'll be your best friend, forever" I assure him: "Shall we go back then?"
