A carriage of winged loremin streaks through the sky and lands easily next to a noble looking castle. A boy in a school uniform comes out, carrying a small travel bag. Waiting for him at the front entrance is a humanoid creature that looks like a man at first glance, except its skin is greenish in color and eyes black.

"Master Brian." The magical servant bows to the boy, just as the carriage takes off and vanishes into the sky again, leaving behind a soft trail of magic behind it that's taking a little while to dissipate.

"Hello, Grashua." Hero grins at the old servant with a shy, but friendly smile, evoking a genuine humph back. "Is father home?" Hero asks next.

"He is on duty, young master. He's been called in by your Grandfather, the grand minister of defense."

"I see." Young man sighs and walks into the lavish house, where he glances at the decorated portrait hanging in the hall that's been recently commissioned by their Grandfather. In it, a stern looking older man with a beard stands side by side with a younger man, whose beard has less gray. A slightly younger Notch with curly light brown hair and Hero, with his hair slightly dark, both look from the portrait with proper manners and pride of the noble heirs of a powerful magical family they are both supposed to be.

The portrait does not reveal the fact that they have been both only recently summoned to grandfather's stronghold, until then considered the offspring of a rebellious son for having married a commoner with no magic. Until Notch and then Hero both tested very high on their potential magic scale, their Grandfather had no interest in them, since he had four other sons and twelve grandsons and four great-grandsons. Unfortunately, two of his main heirs had now perished. One during a mission beyond the Barrier, and another during a magical breach, which resulted in magical monsters destroying half the city. Now, their father had been recalled from his station in level two settlement and began to work for their Grandfather under terms that Notch would be the new heir and future leader of their family.

"Is Marcus home?" Hero asks of the old servant.

"Master Marcus is in his study room. He is already been made aware of your arrival."

"Thanks, Grashua." Hero smiles again and turns to run up the stairs.

"Would you like me to take that, Master Brian?" The old servant nods to the bag that Hero is carrying, but Hero only clings to it tighter.

"No need. I can do it myself." He smiles again, evoking another approving nod from the servant. Hero lightly runs up to his room and changes his clothes with relief. When he leaves the room and heads to his brother's study, he is already dressed in his favorite teal t-shirt and cyan trousers.

Coming to his brother's study, he only lifts his hand to knock on the door, when his brother comes out. Hero curiously stares at his brother's spectacularly bald head.

"Brian! You're home!" Notch exclaims and throws his arms around his little brother, drawing him into a rough bear hug. "I missed you, buddy. How was school?"

"Well... I made it into the top 60th percentile. Up from the 85th. I don't think Grandfather will be pleased, though." Brian reluctantly sighs and looks at the honor roll plaques that hang on the walls of Notch's room.

Of course, being the first heir and the oldest is saddling Notch with the drive to succeed. Hero's eyes hold on the 9th ranking that Notch had achieved in the school magical duels during his stay at the same Prime Noble Academy of Magical Practicum and Artifacts School that Hero is attending himself now. He cannot boast of nearly the same success and can just imagine their Grandfather wincing as he tells their father that Hero's main problem is not his talent, since he has plenty of that, but his lack of motivation and plain laziness.
