Just Act Like Nothing Happened

It's been about a week now. I didn't bring that night up again, but my mind kept replaying every moment again and again.

I was busy fixing the soda machine in the daycare. It would only dispense water, even if you pressed on Sodaroni - whoever would buy that liquid meat.

"Solar?"

I was in the middle of unscrewing a panel when I heard my name behind me. Instinctively, I whipped around, ready to drive my screwdriver into an eyeball. Sun flinched back at my arm flinging out, backing into a stack of barrels and falling with them. He groaned and rubbed his head as he sat up. "Solar, do that again and I'm putting you in time out," he said, standing and already stacking the barrels again.

I rolled my eyes and put my screwdriver on my belt again. "That's why you don't walk up behind me."

Sun was silent until he stacked the three barrels again in 'perfect symmetry', then he turned to me. "Anyway," he said, "the stupid machine... thing can wait. We need to talk."

"Sounds like you're gonna put me in time out anyway." Still, I reluctantly stand. "Is your head okay?"

Sun raised an eyebrow at me. "Is my head ever okay?"

Right. He hallucinates sometimes. I doubt that would be considered 'okay'.

I sighed. "So," I say, "what is this very important thing?"

Sun glanced around him as if about to tell me about the bodies he hid in his attic before looking back to me and speaking quietly. "Solar, are you okay?"

I was expecting the bodies in the attic more than this.

"Uh, yeah?" It wasn't meant to come out as a question, but my voice went an octave higher at the end of the sentence. "I'm fine."

"Oh, please." Sun crosses his arms and leans back in a 'sassy' way. "If you want me to believe that, make it believable."

I'm starting to prefer the attic bodies more.

I try to keep a steady voice. "Don't be a dick. I'm telling you, I'm fine."

"And I'm telling you, that's bullshit."

I growl. "How about you mind your damn business?"

Sun gestures to the sky. "Exactly my point! Why would you be so defensive about it if you were telling the truth?"

I open my mouth to speak, but no words come out. He has a point. He raises his eyebrow again, waiting. I eventually sigh, "Okay, fine. I just have something on my mind."

"Don't we all?" I hear him mumble, though he can't hide the concern in his expression. His voice goes back to normal when he speaks again. "Have at it."

I didn't even know where to begin. "Oh, I kinda had sex with your twin a week ago and wanna do it again but in a romantic way and not a drunk way, ya know?" I'd sound like a fucking lunatic.

Instead, I lean in and whisper. "I think I'm in love with your brother..."

Sun looks disgusted for a second - probably assuming I mean Lunar at first - , then understanding and relieved, then amused. "I fucking knew it!" he cries, pumping a fist in the air and laughing.

My face gets warm instantly. "Wh-what the hell's so funny?" I stammered.

Sun grins at me. "Monty and I had a bet going on who you would fall for. They said you were as straight as a line. Thanks to you, I just won $50."
