I slowly opened my eyes to a strange sound I couldn't place. I was still in my room, as I was when I fell asleep. I look over and Moon is curled up beside me in a fetal position, his bare back to me. I realize the only thing covering us from the slight chill of my room is a slightly soft, thin blanket - not even any clothes. Understandable after the night we just had.

The clock on my bedside table I had moved in here read 9:52 AM. I groan and plop my chin onto Moon's shoulder dramatically. "I think you blew my back out last night..." I sigh, kissing his neck.

Moon was shaking.

I instantly sit up. He was asleep, but shaking and hugging himself. The noise I heard waking up was him shakily breathing and whimpering.

"Moon," I say, gently grabbing his shoulder and shaking him. "Wake up. It's okay."

Moon snaps awake and sits up with a start, headbutting me in the process. We both groan and rub where we were hit - him in the forehead, me in the nose. I ignore the pain and tilt his head to look at me. "Hey, are you-"

The tears streaming down his face made my words catch in my throat.

Moon pulled away and wiped his eyes, soon realizing he had no sleeve and eventually no shirt or any clothes in general, much like me. "H-hey Solar." His voice was shaky.

"Moon," I say slowly, "why are you crying?"

"I'm not..." he denies. "Just a dream."

"Are you sure?"

He nods silently.

"Okay..." Without another word, I pull him to my chest and bury my face in his hair. It's a very awkward position considering the fact that we are both naked men at the moment, but I ignore it. I just pet his hair and hold him in my lap as he slowly wraps his arms around me.

He doesn't sob, just sniffles into my torso. That was fine. His hair smelled of timber wood Old Spice and hair dye. After a moment he goes quiet but still holds me. I pull my face away and tilt his chin up, smiling gently. "Feel better now?" I ask comfortingly.

Moon nods, wiping his eyes. I push his hand away and kiss his forehead, then his nose, then his eyelid. He giggles softly. "That feels weird." He pulls away and gets off the bed, grabbing his boxers off the ground.

Before I have time to consider my question, I blurt out, "What was the dream about?"

He puts on his boxers and tosses mine to me silently. "Just... something."

I started to get dressed with him. "Very descriptive, sweetheart," I comment sarcastically.

He chucks my shorts at my face, obscuring my view. "Smartass," he gripes.

I sigh. "Moon, you need to tell someone if you're having nightmares. Earth is willing to listen, I'm sure."

"Earth has more important things to deal with." He pulled my hoodie lazily over his head, not bothering to either put on a shirt or ask if he could have my hoodie, but I didn't care either. I took his simple black shirt that nearly choked me but smelled like him.

(/unr but i instinctively capitalized 'him' and made it "Him" and said out loud "GOD SMELLS LIKE OLD SHOES" and i will never say anything else about the subject. okey back to story)

I sigh, "Well, I don't," I say. "You can tell me."

"You have your own problems."

I groan in annoyance. "Moon, just fucking tell me. If it was a giant chicken trying to eat you alive you could tell me. I might tease you, but that's the worst I'd do." I might also tell his little brother, but I didn't mention that.

He suddenly snaps, "What if it was about you killing yourself?"

I freeze. Oh. So that's what it was.

Moon was watching me. "What if I had a nightmare where I heard a gunshot so I ran there and you were-" his voice catches in his throat. He looks away to stare at the wall.

I sigh. "Moon, trust me, I'm trying to get that sorted out. I've got a plan to add a more secure safety lock to my gun." I walk over to him and place a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I can handle it."

"No you can't," he retorts softly. "You were about to shoot yourself, how is that okay?!"

I pause. "Moon, I..."

"I don't want to lose anyone just because I'm not there." He wipes his eyes. "One of my biggest fears that I might find someone I love dead on the floor..."

After a moment, I speak again. "That won't happen to me." I lean over so he can see me from where he was turned to. "I promise."

"You don't know that," he retorted.

That was true. I didn't know if he would eventually find me dead, whether it was I that did it or one of the many enemies of the family. I didn't know what would happen, today or tomorrow or a week or month from now. I didn't know anything.

I grab his chin and force him to look at me. "Of course I don't," I say, my tone harsher than I wanted it to be. "You don't know that it will happen, either. We're humans, we don't know jack shit. How would we? Shit's gonna happen and it'll suck dick like a broke hooker. We're clueless, so how about we be clueless together while we tinker with dangerous machinery and try to solve our hundreds of problems, huh?!"

Moon watched me carefully as I ranted, then he hugged me. I felt his breath on my neck as he spoke. "That... sounds fine by me..."

I smile softly and wrap my arms around his waist, kissing his cheek gently and squeezing the life out of him.

"I love you, Moon..."

"I love you too, Solar..."
