Pain shoots through Tofu as Gazz bites his hind leg. He turns to try and attack then, but gets flung by the other zombie. He's barely able to stop himself from flying over the edge of the building. Scraping his paws against the rough roof hurts insanely bad. Running away from the edge, Tofu has to think of what to do. But he doesn't have a plan. He's only fought one zombie at a time, and his brain won't let him attack Gazz.
The other zombie charges him, and he sidesteps it. Tofu jumps into the air and uses Iron tail on the undead Roserade. They slide backwards, and get knocked down. Gazz runs over to the zombie, helping it up. Tofu feels hurt. His focus wavers for a second, allowing Gazz to hit him again. He almost counter attacks, but he doesn't let himself. 'I feel like he's still in there.' His brain annoyingly repeats. Gazz scratches his side.
He lunges out of the way of Gazz's next slash. They both stare at him, almost if they've realized something. Gazz steps towards him. Tofu understands it immediately. 'He's noticed I'm not attacking him.' His brain puts together. Gazz goes on the offensive, jumping at Tofu. He dodges out of the way. He keeps dodging him, hoping that he'll stop. Gazz doesn't stop though, just continuing to slash at him. It's both terrifying and sad to Tofu.
The other zombie is starting to clear the debris blocking the stairs. Tofu slams into them, sending them flying towards the other side of the roof. Gazz catches them mid-air. He looks even angrier than before. They make a groaning noise and slowly approach Tofu. He starts to back up, until his legs hit the edge of the roof. A tiny wall stops him from slipping off the building. He's cornered, a stairwell full of undead blocking one way, Gazz and the Roserade blocking the other.
His mind won't let him attack Gazz. He tries to come up with a plan but can't in time. Both the zombies tackle him and they all fly off the building. Until Tofu's hind legs catch on the tiny wall. He swings down, painfully hitting the corner of the building with his chest. His hind legs scream in pain. The city hangs above him, like the world flipped upside down. Gazz is holding Tofu's left paw. The Roserade wasn't so lucky and continues falling upwards, towards the road.
His paw feels like it's about to rip off. Gazz realizes his fate and stares at Tofu. His mind is still spinning. Slowly he comes to reality and stares back. Gazz almost looks like himself, his eyes begging him to pull them both up. 'He's still in there! Save him!' Tofu thinks. 'No, it's just trying to survive to kill you! Drop him already before you both fall!' His brain argues. 'Didn't you love him!?' His mind fires back.
Tofu decides what to do. 'He is not Gazz!' He thinks, scratching Gazz's arm. He lets go and falls to the ground. The sound almost makes him puke. He pulls himself up just to feel his hind legs almost unable to move. With how he was hanging off the building, his legs were practically bent the wrong way. He crawls towards the center of the building and sighs. Every part of him hurts. A scraping noise reminds him of the zombies climbing up the stairwell.
'I need a way out!' His mind yells. He gets up and limps around. A power cable is connected to a pole near a corner. Tofu finds a bent piece of metal. He taps it against the cable, just to make sure it's not electrocuted. He painfully climbs up and wraps the bent metal around the cable. The groaning of the zombies turn into a yell as they flood the roof. Tofu kicks off the pole and gets sent down the line.
The fear and excitement overpowers the pain in his body. Tofu turns back and watches the zombies look for him. The cable bends with the weight, but luckily doesn't snap. The building is one of the tallest in the city, but the cable is still at a safe enough angle to not be dangerous. A smile slowly spreads across his face as the zombies fail to find where he went. Tofu sighs in relief as he focuses on his dangling hind legs. He wants to make sure they still work, so he lifts one up.
Just as his other leg smacks against a building. A deafening 'crack' echoes through the city as pain floods Tofu's body again. He looks up just in time to see the end of the power cable, connected to the building he just broke his leg on. He lets go of the bent metal just before it slams into the pole. Tofu rolls across the roof and hits a ventilation duct. The impact takes the wind out of him.
Everything hurts. His legs, his chest, everything. His paws are bleeding from scraping and holding onto the makeshift zip line, Gazz gave him a deep scratch in his side, and one of his legs is broken. Very badly broken, Tofu can see some bone sticking out of his fur. A pool of blood has already started to form. 'Cmon, we need to get home.' He tries to stand but falls over. Trying again and again, he finally is able to walk.
The building he's on is empty. No rubble, no items to scavenge, not even any zombies. It's silent as he hobbles down into the road. Every step hurts him, and being unable to use one of his legs doesn't help. The city is desolate, leaving Tofu to his thoughts. 'You killed your crush, good job. Glad you didn't save him.' His mind mocks him. 'Shut it. Can we focus on not dying?' He responds. Being alone in the city for so long made him talk to himself a lot.
His apartment had never felt better. Tofu walks over to his fridge and grabs an Oran berry. It tastes amazing. Sadly, it can't fix his broken leg, but he'll deal with that later. Slowly making it into his bed, he looks out the boarded window and sighs. The city feels like a wasteland, empty except for the undead roaming the streets. Tofu sometimes feels like he's the only one left alive. The mattress feels like a warm embrace as he lays down.
