Two weeks later, Tofu still can't figure out what Arceus meant. 'Genetics and DNA will no longer concern you.' His mind repeats what they said over and over, trying to piece together what ability that grants him. He keeps drawing to the same conclusion, evolution. But nothing has been working. If DNA didn't concern him, why can't he evolve on command? Does it require him to evolve beforehand? What if he's wrong and evolves for no reason? It hurts Tofu's head thinking about all this.

So he focuses back on the tree he's been slowly chopping down. He found a perfectly sized rock on one of his adventures, and slowly transformed it into a blade. The bark of the tree has been cut away over the past few days and the only thing stopping Tofu is the wood on the inside. It was surprisingly a lot weaker than the outside layers. So he sighs, clears his mind, and begins slicing through the tree.

Hours pass before Tofu steps back and sits down. He breathes deeply and shakily, exhausted. Tofu is getting tired of cutting down this one tree, the gash in its side just about reaching halfway through it. 'When will this thing fall?' Tofu asks himself. He doesn't know, and continues to gather his breath as the minutes pass. More leaves fall around him, autumn transitioning into winter. Cold winds blow through the forest.

Tofu reluctantly goes back to scraping away at the tree after another few minutes of regaining his energy. It's a very slow and annoying process. He suddenly can't cut at the tree. His sharpened rock can't reach the rest of the tree. Tofu is about to give up, until he remembers he can just cut from the other side. He begins slowly slashing through the tree's tough bark, until he hears cracking. The tree was falling directly towards him.

Tofu limps out of the way in time and the tree hits the forest floor with a loud thud. He smiles and prepares to drag the tree to his home. Grabbing a few strong branches, he pulls desperately at the tree. It doesn't move at all, and Tofu accidentally uses his broken leg a little. Pain shoots through him as he lets go of the tree. Unfortunately, Tofu falls backwards, putting more pressure on his hind legs and landing on his back.

Tofu feels the air leave his lungs as he slams against the forest floor. He just lays on his back for a few minutes, crying softly. Slowly, Tofu convinces himself to get up. The walk back to his house is long and painful, the sun slowly setting over the giant city's walls. He forgot that he's just trapped in this infected town. The gates have been closed indefinitely, Tofu checked soon after breaking his leg. He wanted out for once, and was denied.

It hurt Tofu to get back to his home. The stairway seemed extra painful as he climbed it. It still takes him thirty minutes to get to his floor. He's perfected getting up the stairs, it just still takes forever. His bed feels incredible as he flops onto it. The pain in his leg subsides as he relaxes into the comfy mattress. Tofu is perfectly content with going to sleep that night, a small warm feeling inside him helping him lose consciousness.

Tofu wakes up in a small cabin. A fireplace crackles with a newly made fire as he gets up from the soft bed he was laying on. Tofu stretches and looks around, finding not much else other than the fireplace. There's a small window looking outside, revealing that it's snowing. The white flakes dance in the air, landing on the blanket of snow settling on the ground. He presses his nose against the glass and flinches a little. The glass is extremely cold.

He walks over to the fireplace and lays down in front of it. Tofu's nose is the closest to the small fire. He feels a wave of comfort wash over him as he snuggles closer to himself. His body just feels normal in this state, comfort surrounding her like a blanket. Tofu closes her eyes and just bathes in the warm feeling this cabin gives off. She relaxes more and more, her body becoming a perfect temperature. She falls asleep quickly.

Tofu really has to pry himself out of bed. But surprisingly, he still feels comfortable out of bed. He stretches his legs and walks over to the small fridge he scavenged. The usual cool air feels uncomfortable to Tofu. 'It's just winter coming in.' Tofu tells himself. He grabs a Cheri berry and eats it. He begins walking to the stairs, preparing for the painful climb down. Tofu steps, and doesn't feel pain in their hind leg.

Tofu turns, and notices her orange fur. It looks a lot fluffier. Tofu immediately goes back into her apartment and looks into the mirror. She gasps. A Flareon stares back at her. Tofu must've evolved during her sleep. She moves her tail back and forth, twitches her ears, and rubs her fluffy mane with her paw. She feels so different, yet almost more normal than before. Her new form feels way more comforting to Tofu.

After checking out her entire body in the mirror, she smiles. Tofu loves this new Flareon figure. She feels a lot softer, warmer, and stronger too. An idea comes to mind, and she opens her mouth expectantly. A small flame shoots out. She's both impressed and a little disappointed. Tofu sighs and walks away from the mirror. 'I kinda thought I could speak now...' She thinks. Walking down the building's stairwell is easy, her broken leg fixed.

The walk to the forest is surprisingly fast. Tofu finds the fallen tree after a few minutes of searching. She bounds up to it and tries to pick it up. It's too heavy. She tries again and again, still not being able to carry it. Letting out a sigh, she prepares to cut the tree in half. Tofu tries to use Iron tail, but can't anymore. 'Dang it!' She intrusively thinks 'If only I was a Sylveon or something, then I could carry this stupid tree!'

She throws the sharp rock, embedding it into the tree. The air is silent afterwards, a cold wind blowing through the forest. Tofu sighs and sits down. 'Calm down Tofu, just relax.' She thinks as a weird feeling passes through her. A wave of relaxation spreads through Tofu's body. A quiet 'thunk' makes Tofu open her eyes. The sharp rock had come back, a pink ribbon floating next to it. Tofu grabs it and then looks back at the ribbon.

'What the?' She thinks and follows the ribbon, back to her own body. Her fur was now light pink, and considerably less fluffy. Four ribbons spread from her neck, each floating around her. Tofu had somehow transformed into a Sylveon.
