Chapter 10

Life tends to throw curve balls at you, you just have to be strong enough to make them home runs.
"Sky can we talk for a minute?" Sam says standing in the doorway. "Now."
"Yeah. I'll be right back Jack." I tell him walking in the house. "What is it?" I ask Sam worried.
"Sky grandma has cancer and might not have a lot of time to live. We have to go to Chicago and go be with her." He tries not to cry.
"But she was just fine two weeks ago!" I start crying I called her two weeks ago when Jack and I first started hanging out and she was so excited for me. She was fine then. How could this happen so fast?
"Sky mom and dad took a flight there last night and they booked us one for tomorrow morning at five."
"No. This can't be happening. She was just fine!" I sob putting my head in my hands.
"Skylar I'm not supposed to be telling you this, but grandma has had cancer for the past 20 years. She was so sick at one point that they gave her months to live, but then she found out mom was pregnant and pushed through it. Its amazing she lived this long Sky."
"Why would they keep this from me?! Why would they tell you and not me?!" I scream making Jack run in.
"Sky- Jack get out!" Sam yells.
"No Sam you get out! How could you keep this from me?!"
"Sky-"
"I hate you!" I burst running up stairs, Jack following behind.
"Sky, baby what happened?" Jack asks moving a piece of hair out of my face.
"My, uh, my grandma has, cancer." I mumble trying to catch my breath from crying.
"Oh Sky I'm so sorry."
"Come with me Jack."
"What?"
"Come with me to Chicago. I don't want to be alone with Sam or my family right now."
"Sky are you sure? I don't want to invade." He asks grabbing my hand.
"I'm sure. I'll book us a flight." I say grabbing my computer off my desk.
"Did your parents already book you and Sam a flight?"
"JBear can take my seat. His family is very close to mine and he loves my grandpa." I smile thinking about JBear and grandpa hanging out and talking when we were younger.
"Okay I'll go and pack my things and we'll leave as soon as possible."
"I love you."
"I love you too baby." He smiles walking out the door. I get on the computer and book a flight for two to Chicago for tonight at ten. One way. I text Jack and tell him then I get on the phone and call JBear.
"Hey JBear I know things are awkward as fuck right now but I just found out my grandma has cancer and we are flying out there tomorrow morning and you can take my flight with Sam. I'm booking a flight for Jack and I because I really don't want to talk to Sam right now."
"Yeah I knew about your grandma sorry Sky. It was gonna book a flight out there but I'll just take yours now."
"You knew about her too?!" I spit.
"What?"
"Just- noting nevermind. You leave at five tomorrow morning be at my house at three tomorrow and you'll leave with Sam." I say and hang up. I fall back on my bed and sigh. This is going to be a long week.
