chapter seven

"My high hopes are getting low
But I know I'll never be alone"

Conie stood next to Mal and watched with a light smile as Ben knelled before Fairy godmother.

"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign," Fairy godmother asked, also smiling.

"I do solemnly swear," Ben said sincerely.

She gently tapped him with her wand, "Then it is my honor and my joy to bless our new king."

Then someone decided to grab the wand. That someone being Jane.

"Child, what are you doing?!" Fairy godmother yelled.

Conie pushed Mal behind him as the wand let off sparks. She held his arm tightly.

"If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself," Jane yelled back. "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!"

Conie wanted to go and grab the thing from her before Jane hurt herself but he couldn't leave Mal.

Ugh, things were less complicated when I had two friends!

"Take cover," Beast told everyone.

Ben hurried over to Conie and Mal and helped protect Mal. Conie then took a few steps towards Jane before Mal grabbed him and pushed him back to Ben.

Mal went from behind Jane and grabbed the wand. The two girls struggled for a moment but Mal ended up with the wand.

Ben rushed to Mal and Jane rushed to Conie.

"Mal, give me the wand," Ben tried, reaching out to her.

Jane clutched Conie's back in fear but Conie knew things would be alright.

"Stand back," Mal ordered.

The crowd huddle closer together to get away from Mal. But Conie, and therefore Jane, didn't move.

Ben took a step closer, "It's okay."

"Ben, I said stand back!" There were tears in her eyes.

"I told you so," Audrey exclaimed.

Mal turned to her, pointing the wand, and everyone gasped and hid.

"Nobody fucking asked you," Conie couldn't help but yell.

Mal looked at him, he smiled at her and didn't hide.

"Mal," Conie said softly. "Do what you want."

The other three ran through the massive doors and took a spot behind Mal.

"Let's go," Carlos said.

"Revenge time," Jay reminded her.

But Jay was staring at Conie trying to convey his apology.

"You really want to do this," Ben asked.

"We have no choice, Ben," She replied. "Our parents..."

"Your parents made their choice," He cut her off. "Now you make yours."

The room was filled with silence for a moment.

Conie and Jay continued to stare at each other.

"I think I want to be good," Mal said finally.

"You are good," Ben told her.

"How do you know that?"

"Because... Because I'm listening to my heart."

"I want to listen to my heart, too," Mal expressed. "And my heart is telling me that we are not our parents. I mean, stealing things doesn't make you happy. Tourney and victory pizza with Conie and the team makes you happy."

Conie winked and smiled at Jay, who smiled right back. No more apologies in his eyes.

Mal turned to Carlos, "And you, scratching dude's belly makes you happy. Who would've thought? And Evie... You do not have to play dumb to get a guy. You are so smart. And I don't want to take over the world with evil. It doesn't make me happy. I want to go to school. And be with Ben. Because Ben makes me really happy. Us being friends makes me really happy. Not destroying things. I choose good, you guys."

She put her fist out towards the other VKs.

"I choose good, too," Jay put his fist out.

Then Evie, "I choose good."

"So, just to be clear, we don't have to be worried about how really mad our parents will be," Carlos asked. "Because they're gonna be really, really mad."

"Your parents can't reach you here," Ben reassured him. "Besides, Conie is here. He won't let them reach you."

Carlos looked over to Conie, who nodded in agreement to Ben's statement. Carlos smiled.

"Okay, then." He also put his fist out. "Good."

Conie chuckled, just as I thought.

But, of course, nothing could go perfectly as green smoke flew through the room. Green smoke that turned into Maleficent.

"I'm back," The villian said in a sing-song voice.

Conie pushed Jane towards the crowd, a guard pulled her behind him, and then took a few steps towards Maleficent. He was fully ready to beat her black and blue.

"Go away, mother," Mal sighed.

Maleficent only laughed at her daughter, "She's funny. Oh! I'm so... you're very funny. Here. Wand me. Chop chop."

Mal instead threw the wand to Fairygodmother and Conie raised his fist, ready to knock the villain out.

"Bibbidi-bobbidi-"

Then everything froze.
