Epilogue Connecticut September 10, 1978

Months had cascaded like the falling leaves of autumn since the events of Emma's case. Katy had succesfully defended her dissertation and now earned the title Doctor of Philosophy in religion with an emphasis in cult studies. The achievement brought a sense of accomplishment to her hard wok, but it was the support and pride in Lorraine's eyes that made it truly special. As days melded into one another, Katy's professional and personal lives wove together seamlessly. Ed, after some initial hesitance, came to accept and even appreciate Katy's relationship with Lorraine. He saw the joy and vibrancy Katy brought into Lorraine's life, and he couldn't help but feel happy for them. Katy, now a full-time member of the Warrens' investigative team, worked closely with Lorraine and Ed. Together, they formed a powerful trio, each bringing their own strengths and insights to solve the complex mysteries that came their way. Ed and Lorraine had found a way to co-parent Judy.

The young girl, a beacon of joy and innocence, had grown close to Katy, often spending time with her during her stays at when Lorraine had come over. On a serene evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the home, Katy found herself preparing Judy for a special dinner. The task at hand was braiding Judy's hair, a task that, despite its simplicity, became a heartwarming ritual between them."Alright, Judy, let's get these braids just right for dinner," Katy said, her fingers skillfully weaving through Judy's hair.

Judy, seated patiently but with an occasional giggle, looked up at Katy through the mirror. "Do you think mommy will like it?" she asked, her voice tinged with excitement.Katy smiled, meeting Judy's gaze in the mirror. "I think she's going to love it. You always look beautiful, but tonight, you're going to be the star of the dinner."Judy beamed, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "I can't wait to see everyone's faces!"Judy's eyes sparkled mischievously as she sat still for Katy's attempts at braiding her hair. The air was filled with an air of excitement and the scent of anticipation, signaling a special dinner ahead."Are you going to wear something nice for your birthday, Katy?" Judy asked, a teasing glint in her eyes. "Mommy always stares when you wear pretty dresses.""I do have a dress in mind, actually," Katy revealed with a smile, meeting Judy's curious gaze in the mirror. "I think it's one that both you and your mom might like." Katy teased, her voice laced with amusement. "You'll just have to wait and see. A little mystery makes dinner more fun, don't you think?"Judy nodded eagerly, her anticipation clearly growing. "I can't wait to see Mommy's face!" she said, her words filled with a child's innocent delight.Katy laughed again, a melodic sound that echoed in the room. "Okay, go wash up for dinner. We don't want to keep everyone waiting."

Just as she was putting the final touches, Judy scampered away, leaving Katy alone in the room. Glancing at herself in the mirror, Katy decided on a black lace midi dress, a timeless piece that complemented the grace in her movements. She paired it with elegant heels that added a subtle touch of sophistication. As she surveyed her reflection, a sense of confidence and allure washed over her. Katy chuckled at the thought of Lorraine's reaction. Katy smoothed out any imaginary wrinkles, readying herself for the evening ahead. With one last glance at the mirror, she whispered a playful affirmation to herself, "Let the evening begin."As Katy went downstairs, she was greeted by an unexpected darkness

. Her heart began to race, a mix of anticipation and nervousness fluttering in her chest. Then, suddenly, the lights flickered on, and the room burst into a chorus of "Happy Birthday!" The surprise caught her off guard, her eyes widening as she took in the smiling faces of friends and family.Lorraine stepped forward, her face beaming with joy. She wrapped Katy in a warm, heartfelt hug and planted a tender kiss on her cheek.

"Happy birthday, sweetheart," Lorraine whispered, her voice carrying the warmth of genuine affection.Katy's initial shock melted away, replaced by a feeling of overwhelming love and gratitude. She looked around the room, her eyes meeting those of the people she cherished, each of them there to celebrate this special day with her. Katy, still caught in the joyous atmosphere, turned to Lorraine with a wide grin. "Did you plan all of this?" she asked, her eyes reflecting both surprise and admiration for the effort put into the celebration.Lorraine chuckled warmly, a twinkle in her eyes. "Maybe," she teased, "but it was a team effort.
