"Jump?" Jisung asked and pulled Minho away from the window "are you fucking crazy? we're four stories up"
Heavy footsteps sounded from the stairwell a little ways away from them. Minho pushed the window out more and gazed at the river that flowed about ten feet from the window. He'd looked at it a billion times before but this made it feel so much different.
"Jump hard. Push your feet from the edge and lunge yourself forward. You'll make it." Minho replied and climbed up in the window sill.
"Let go!" He called, the wind blowing on his face.
Jisung stepped up beside Minho and took a deep breath. It was the first breath of fresh air he'd had in so long and if he wasn't being chased down by guards at the moment he would take a few moments to enjoy it but he couldn't.
"Ready?" Minho called as the alarm still blared in the background.
"Jump!"
Gunshots rang out behind them as they jumped from the window. the guards had made it up the stairs only moments after they jumped.
Time slowed as they fell.
Jisungs screaming was the only thing heard before they hit the water and were carried away from the building by the current. The currents were fast and the water was freezing as Jisung came up for air.
Cold.
The water was freezing on their limbs as the air around them wasn't much warmer.
"That was amazing!" Jisung screamed as he breached the surface of the water and turned as he floated downstream to look for Minho. He was gone..
Just as Jisung went to freak out, Minhos head came above the water as he coughed and pushed his hair back.
They were a few feet apart now as they continued floating, the waters a bit calmer now than they were upstream.
"Are you okay?" Jisung called and Minho nodded
"Yeah!" He called back "my foot got caught on a tree root when we went down,"
"Oh," Jisung said in return "it is okay?"
"You're caring about me now?" Minho asked teasingly, finding the mood switch quite funny. Before, Jisung was quiet. He didn't care much or didn't seem to and if Minho wasn't mistaken, he thought Jisung really was crazy. Of course the reports all said so. They all said that he was ill in the head and sick in the soul. It was a sort of strange whiplash from everything that he had come to grow so used to in the past weeks of rooming with Jisung.
"Shut up." Jisung said, returning to that cold gaze, the light gone from his eyes in only a moments time.
They came to a wash out in the currents and Jisung began to climb out. He sat on the muddy bank of the river and pushed his wet hair from his eyes, water dripping down his nose. Minho climbed up after him as Jisung took off his shoes and began dumping water out of them.
"What now?" Minho asked as he untied his sopping shoe laces.
Jisung quickly put his shoes back on and stood.
"I'm going home," he said simply and shrugged as he looked around as if home could be in any direction.
Home..
There was no such thing for Minho. No such thing for a soldier like him whose home was something that he had just run away from. If it could even be called such things.
"I don't care what you do," jisung said and shrugged as he looked at the stars in the sky, taking a moment to breathe deeply and appreciate the first few breaths of fresh air he'd had in hundreds of days.
"Can I come with you?" Minho asked, looking up at Jisung with hopeful eyes.
The other opened his mouth to answer when he heard a branch crack in the distance.
"Fuck," Jisung cursed and pulled Minho up as he started running. Minho ran behind him, hoping that the commander had called off the soldiers already so their plan could run smoother than it was right now. He'd never planned on having to jump out of the window and into a river but who knew what else this insane world could make them do.
"Jisung?"
The boy turned around in front of Minho and he bumped into him at the sudden stop. Jisung scoffed and shoved Minho out of his way.
"Felix!" Jisung called and ran up to him, a smile on his face as he looked around behind him "where's Hyunjin?"
"He's back there taking a piss.. something about 'the freedom of being a man again' whatever that means.." Felix's eyes trailed over to Minho and his smile slowly fell as they lingered on him.
"Ji-"
"Dude peeing outside is something I haven't done in years! I'm a man again I tell you! A man!" Hyunjin came out of the bushes yelling dramatically. However soon he fell quiet and looked at Jisung, then to Felix who he followed his eyes to Minho.
"Jisung." Hyunjin said and walked up to the other boy and turned his body to him
"this wasn't the plan."
Jisung stayed quiet and Minho hung back a few feet away from the people he had escaped with.
Call him crazy, but he just wanted to be accepted. Even if these people were psycho, for once, he just wanted to be liked.
"Jisung you know how long we planned how could you go against that?" Felix asked, eyes hurt and a little glint of insanity hid behind them. The same kind that Minho had seen in jisungs eyes.
"I don't know okay? I just- I don't know why I brought him!"
"You better not fuck this up," Hyunjin said and shoulder checked Jisung as he walked over to Minho.
The two others watched and Minho felt himself cower a little under hyunjins firm gaze. It was much scarier than the commanders.. much scarier than anything he had ever faced or done in the past.
Hyunjin stopped in front of him and looked at him for a moment before smirking a little.
"You're lucky you're hot," he said simply and grabbed Minhos chin, tilting his head around to get a good glimpse at his face and moved around him.
Minho stood, frozen and shivering at his wet clothes and under hyunjins gaze. Everything these prisoners did seemed to break down every ounce of training he had into nothing.
"That side profile.." Hyunjin said and sighed before stopping in front of Minho again, brushing his thumb over his bottom lip, "you're going to be a problem.."
Minho stayed quiet, blinking a few times before glancing away from hyunjins eyes and swallowing before lowering his head to look at his wet shoes.
"I won't be," he said softly and raised his head again to look at Hyunjin.
Hyunjin looked him dead in the eyes, Minho struggling to hold the intense, insane eye contact.
"Get moving then." Hyunjin said simply and walked back to the others who he motioned to follow.
Minho fell in step a few feet behind everyone, wondering what he had gotten himself into with this mission.
