24th December 2015

11:14 p.m.

The announcement was made, the buses arrived, and everyone was gathered at the front. Barbara tried rushing everyone onto the buses, which was kind of unnecessary since there were only about twenty people. It took a minute or so to get the buses moving, but once they did everyone was in a cheerier mood. The drive didn't take too long either, with only six minutes gone, we arrived at the lakeside.

As we drove along the lake and passed the fifty-foot tree, everyone was awed by the sheer size of the structure. I put my proud face on, which Amna was soon to insult about... The buses kept going until we reached the opposite side of the lake, where Amna asked the driver to stop.

Amna: We're getting off here and walking the rest of the way.

Samuel: Why?

Amna: The road ahead is only for the forest rangers; the buses can't go any further.

Driver: How are we supposed to turn the buses around then?

Amna: I don't know, you're the driver, not me.

Driver: Tch... You're lucky to be the manager of this event.

Samuel: Huh?

Amna: Everyone let's get going quick!

Amna grabbed my hand and pushed me off the bus. The others followed us, and we kept walking until we reached a plain grass field. The place was perfect as we could see the tree from afar and it wasn't too close to the tugboats that were carrying the fireworks.

11:31 p.m.

Everyone sat down on the grass and began to chatter. I sat down with Amna, Barbara, and Sarah, and looked around at the other groups gazing upon the night sky peacefully. And this was when it hit my mind...

Samuel: Hey, is it just me or are we missing something?

Sarah: So, I wasn't the only one feeling that!

Barbara: It is too peaceful right now...

Amna: I think you three are just worrying too much.

Meanwhile, back at the venue...

Daniel: Hello?! Is the party over?! I'm still locked in the room! Hello!

Samuel: You are right...

Amna: Also, I know a better place than this. How about we go there?

Barbara: Sure.

We all stood up and followed Amna uphill, into the woods. The path was lit by small electric lanterns and the further we went, the smaller the trail had gotten. Despite this, Amna just kept going, almost leaving us behind.

We then reached a small opening which was a lot better than the previous location. We all sat down on the grass and began to talk about random things. But then, Sarah suddenly stopped and nodded to Barbara, to which she nodded back with a smile. Barbara checks her phone and says...

Barbara: Wait, Amna. It's eleven-fifty, and we must return to the group for the speech.

Samuel: I'll come with you two to hear it.

Barbara: No-

Amna: You should be able to hear it from here since I'll be speaking over the speaker.

Samuel: Oh, all right.

Amna and Barbara rushed back to the group, and I was alone with Sarah.

Sarah: (Looks up at the night sky) The stars are so bright... I never got to see them like this in the city.

Samuel: It's the whole reason why my place was isolated. Mother always loved painting about the night sky.

Sarah: Oh, I know... When she visited Fuko, all she did was pester Mom to go stargazing with her.

Samuel: She was a fun person to be around.

Sarah: I prefer your dad more though.

Samuel: The mechanical freak?

Sarah: He taught me so many useful things in a fun way.

Samuel: Like what?

Sarah: (With a proud smile) I know how to build a car from scratch.

Samuel: He even got you with that. He wouldn't leave me alone when it came to building stuff using gears and metals.

Sarah: I bet I was his favourite student.

Samuel: Did he teach you how to build a rocket?

Sarah: A what...?

Samuel: Exactly. You could never be his favourite student as long as I exist.

Sarah: Whatever...

Samuel: Also-

Amna over the speaker: Check. Check. If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands...! Yeah, it works now...

Sarah: Ooo, Amna is giving her speech.

Amna over the speaker: All right... Umm... I wasn't prepared to deliver a speech for this event, but I'll make one up now... Hey everyone, my name is Amna Anis, and I am the assistant of the owner of the KSC. I know that I look too young to be an assistant in the KSC, but that's what my sister, Fathima, wanted from me after her death. I'm not saying that I was forced into this since it is my dream job, and now I have plenty of new friends like Barbara and Sarah. As for my sister, I'm sure she is doing great while waiting for the final days to come... Anyway, time isn't my friend now, so I'll have to conclude this right now... Everyone! From the KSC and Vogue Garments! We wish you a merry Christmas!

12:00 a.m.

Two fireworks flew up as soon as the speech was over, and the tree lit up in synchrony with the blast. The bright colours were beautiful. Sarah squealed in happiness and watched as more fireworks brightened the darkness.

As we both watched the show, Sarah placed her hand on mine and told me...

Sarah: Hey Sam. I think I love you.

Samuel: (Looks at Sarah) Huh...?

Sarah: (Looks at Samuel and smiles) I love you, Samuel! So will you go on a date with me?!

Our eyes locked to one another; I didn't know what to say except...

Samuel: Yes. Yes, we could go on a date.
