11:11 a.m.
I had a tough time navigating through the parking lot. I wanted to park somewhere close to the entrance to avoid getting wet, but at the same time, I wanted to park in a covered area, so my car doesn't get hit by debris in the wind. The artsy style of the mall just made my demand impossible to satisfy.
The inside wasn't any better either... Upon entering the mall, I immediately noticed the monochrome interior that every store stuck to, which made me feel like I was entering a film from the eighteen hundreds. Even though I've seen five different floors in the mall's concourse, I had no clue how to go up to those levels.
Being so lost, I followed the crowd in hopes of finding a way up; all I needed was to reach the fifth floor, where the offices are, and it worked. I couldn't figure out why the designer of this place would want the elevators and stairs to be outside the mall, but it explained why I couldn't any way up. Despite all that, a staff near the elevator told me that I was in the wrong elevator area and that I must go all the way to the other side of the mall to get to the office elevator.
Frustrated, and exhausted of exploring the place, I finally reached the CEO's office. I would usually be nervous in these types of situations, but I just felt annoyed by the design choice of the mall. I pushed the door open without knocking and Arjun, Dan, Fathima, and Sarah just stared at me. The office was quite big, and the CEO sat on their chair facing out the window.
Sarah: Daniel called you like two hours ago, what took you so long?
Samuel: Sorry, the fog made it harder to drive...
Daniel: Boss! Boss! This is him! My future piece of art!
The CEO turned around and it was none other than Barbara herself. She looked at me from head to toe and started to tear up.
Barbara: Sam?
Samuel: Barbara?!
Fathima: Hey, notice me too!
Barbara: Fathima?
Fathima: I've been in this room for an hour and now you noticed me...
Barbara: Well, I felt extremely nervous when Dan kept telling me that he wanted to hire someone who could ruin my business if they wanted to. I didn't know he was talking about you...
Samuel: Wait, was this meeting not intended for me?
Barbara: Oh no, it is. But Dan just kept yapping about the model arriving first which made me nervous.
Arjun: This whole situation is just getting more confusing. Let me break it up for everyone. Boss wanted to meet Sam because she had missed him, which is why we came to your house. During that time, Dan here tricked Sam into being a model for him but he didn't inform his boss about it. And today, the boss expected to meet both Sam and this model that Dan hired, unaware that Sam is both. Right before your arrival, Dan wouldn't stop talking about 'the model he dreamt of hiring to come,' which made the boss nervous because Dan described the model's power and her unreadiness of meeting the model before you.
Samuel: Everything makes sense now...
Daniel: I didn't know you could speak that much Arjun.
Arjun: I did take a day off yesterday, so I feel energized.
Fathima: So, Barbara, how have you been?
Barbara: I've been well. How about you? Sam isn't troubling you anymore, right?
Fathima: I've been doing great, especially after Sam became a changed man.
Barbara: Come here for a second.
Fathima: (Walks over to Barbara) Hmm?
Barbara: (Whispers into Fathima's ear) Have you made a move yet?
Fathima blushed hard and looked at me, while I stood confused about why she was glaring at me.
Fathima: I shall go out and explore the mall!
Fathima ran out of the office like a shy child and slammed the door shut.
Samuel: What did you tell her?
Barbara: Oh, nothing. She didn't change one bit all these years.
Sarah: Should I get her?
Samuel: Nah, she needs to relax after that.
I smiled having known that I finally found Barbara and that we could be happy together again. But that's not what the world had planned.
Chloe: Go after her.
Samuel: Huh?
Chloe: Go after her!
Samuel: What do you mean?
Sarah: Hey Sam, are you all right? Whom are you speaking to?
Chloe: She will be at the back entrance of the mall, go after her now.
I became tensed and left the office in a hurry to chase after Fathima.
Sarah: Sam! Screw this, I'm going after him.
Barbara: Wait, Sarah!
I spotted Fathima walking on the ground floor and ran down the stairs as fast as I could. She looked fine, so why would Chloe tell me to go after her? She didn't seem to be troubled by anything, so why?
I follow Fathima until she walks out into the foggy rain, on the sidewalk.
Samuel: Fathima!
Fathima turned around to look at me and this is when it happened...
A man, who was in a hurry bumped into her and she fell onto the road, where a vehicle's headlights could be noticed coming in high speeds. I ran in to drag her away but instead, my body froze as I tightly held her in my arms. Fathima, not realizing the situation, was startled.
Sarah: What are you two doing? Get out of the road!
Sarah runs in and pushes the both of us, now being the one in danger. I tried to stand up while Fathima tried to get off the road, and before we could react... The driver did.
They noticed Sarah on the road and turned away quickly. I turn my back to notice that Fathima is looking right at me with a smile, knowing what will happen to her. And although the rain was loud and Fathima was whispering, I heard her tell me with the smile still on.
"I have loved you since we were young, and I still must thank you for everything, Samuel."
