The shadow of war hung over the glorious Holy Empire. After more than five hundred years of expansion, glory and victory, this super-powerful empire had just suffered a bitter humiliation at the hands of a young man and one of his princesses at the Battle of the Red Sea.The young man and the princess had assembled a large army made up of former imperial soldiers, former serfs, fallen nobles, mercenaries and the 8th Army affiliated to the third princess, Hélèna. They were united by a common hatred of the Empire, and their leader, the rebel Ares, guided them blindly.

This rebel victory and imperial defeat marked the beginning of one of the bloodiest periods in the history of the World of Elénor. From the heroes to the perfidy of human nature, this glorious and inhuman era will be remembered forever. The complexity of this rebellion bore witness to the countless dysfunctions of the empire. It had swallowed up territories and peoples without being able to manage them, yet it continued to expand, for this was synonymous with its power and glory.

All this began when Emperor Julius IV ascended the throne of the Holy Roman Empire in the year 1245. His crown was welcomed by the people, for he was young and covered in glory. He had earned his fame by defeating the free maritime city of Merine. After his coronation, he launched far-reaching tax reforms, with the nobles paying less and the lowly more. His ambition was to build the greatest and most beautiful palace of all time, and this came at a high price. The nobles no longer had their tax breaks, so they didn't spend their surplus money on the imperial economy either.

In 1250, the Emperor married the heiress of one of the greatest families of the Republic of Fenden, in order to restore the Empire's coffers to a decent level. However, they were both very greedy and wasteful, and this led to the ruin of the Empire.Money earmarked for the construction of imperial buildings or cathedrals and temples for the Radiant Church was no longer enough, and famine struck the empire. The common people were starving, soldiers had no pay and brigands were rife. Thus, the empire's inhabitants had to choose between a life of misery or sacrifice for a better destiny.
