The next morning, Jesse, still affected by the previous night, decides to confront  the problem of his mother's alcoholism.

He finds her in the kitchen, where a bottle of alcohol sits on the table.

Jesse (in a firm tone): Mom, we need to talk.

His mother, visibly uncomfortable, looks up at him.

Jesse's mother (avoiding eye contact): Oh, hi, Jesse. I took a little pick-me-up, you know, for the stress.

Jesse (frowning): A "little pick-me-up"? It's become a habit, Mom. That's enough of that.

Jesse's mother (defensive): I know what I'm doing. You don't have to lecture me.

Jesse (exasperated): You really think this is normal? That it doesn't affect the rest of our lives?

Jesse's mother (raising her voice): It's my life, Jesse. I have the right to do what I want.

Jesse (clenching fists): It's my life too, Mom. And it's getting harder and harder to deal with.

Tension mounts in the room, the argument reaching a climax.

Jesse (calmer but determined): I'm leaving for college soon.
You should really do something.

Jesse's mother (looking away): Who do you think you are? You don't get to tell me what to do.

Jesse (breathing deeply): I'm just... I'm worried about you, Mom. I don't want to lose you over this.

The conversation stops, leaving a heavy silence. Jesse realizes it may be time to make some tough decisions for his own well-being.

Jesse arrives on the college campus.

As he walks along, he spots Billie in the distance, accompanied by Nate.

Billie notices Jesse and gives him a cold, animated look. Jesse, a little surprised by this reaction, approaches them. The scene unfolding before his eyes adds further weight to his emotions.

Billie and Nate embrace and exchange a passionate kiss, almost ignoring Jesse's presence.

He tries to hide his confusion behind a nonchalant smile, but the glint of disappointment in his eyes doesn't go unnoticed.

Billie, involved in her new chapter with Nate, continues without paying Jesse any attention.

Class begins, and the atmosphere in the classroom is charged. Jesse, sitting next to Billie and Nate, can't help but feel a bit of jealousy.

While the teacher is handing out papers for exercises, Jesse, annoyed by Billie and Nate's proximity, casually tosses a paper in Nate's direction, as if it were an unintentional act. The paper lands on Nate's desk, attracting the attention of the whole class.

Nate (in a calm voice): Jesse, seriously?

Jesse (sarcastically): Oh, sorry, that was accidental. My arm had a moment of weakness.
