It was around 7:45 pm. I just got back home from work, I know you're probably thinking why would a 17-year-old be working and not focused on her senior year studies? It's not like my family struggled with money, instead it was more like... an escape from reality. Truth is, I used to have what I considered the PERFECT life, everything was good between my parents, and they always spent time with me. That was until I turned 15, me, my father, and my mother were driving to the airport. We were talking a vacation to Florida for my birthday. As we got near, the clouds shifted from a light gray to a dark stormy almost black color. We were 200 % sure a storm was headed our way, but we weren't so far from the airport so we continued to drive just so we can at least take shelter there. All of a sudden it started raining, it wasn't that hard for the first 5 minutes, but soon it increasingly got worse. I watched as the rain fell harder and faster, the windshield wipers almost incapable of wiping the glass clean, the roads began feeling slippery. Mom was yelling at dad to take an exit and we could continue driving later, but he didn't listen. Shortly after the rain fell EVEN HARDER, at this point it was getting hard to see. Next thing I know dad almost hits the car in front of us in a shock he honked the horn and swerved right, the roads were too slippery and the whole car flipped. That was the last time I ever seen my dad... He died and ever since I vowed never to drive in the rain. Anyways when. I turned 16 my mom found a new boyfriend... and to be honest I didn't really like him; he gave off creepy vibes. Anyways. I unlock the door to the house and walk in, I could hear crying and immediately I ran to my mom's room, I burst open the door and my heart dropped. He was on top of her forcing kisses. I yelled at him to get off of her, but he wouldn't listen. My mom kept telling me it's okay and to just go back into my room, but I couldn't just go back knowing what HE was doing to her. I remembered something my dad always told me growing up ' listen Mija, if something ever happens to me where I can't be there for you and your mom, I want you to protect her the best you can ' in an instant I left the room and went to the bathroom, shifting over the toilet I put in the combination to the safe 02-17-02 , my birthday and I grabbed the gun slowly looking at it. I stood up and took a breath before walking back to the door. I walked in and held the gun up towards him. ' I said get off of her ' my voice came out kind of shaky, he turned his head and laughed at my trembling hands pointing a gun straight at him. He shook his head and turned back around, and my mother's cry's echoed in my ear, all of a sudden, I pulled the trigger. His body collapsed on my mother, and she screamed, I couldn't move. 10 minutes felt like 10 hours when I started hearing sirens in the background.

I watched as the guard tapped his keycard on the system and the buzzer sounded allowing us to walk through. I follow him closely and again he uses his keycard to open another door this time it led outside. I spotted one car in the parking lot and the guard watched from the door as I walked up to the car and got in. 'I know that is not John old ass still working here,' my friend started 'Girl don't get me started, hurry up and drive me out this parking lot, I've been in jail for TOO long' I laughed at that last part. I watched out the windows as my homegirl Isalia pulled out of the gates, when I first got to jail she took me under her wing, I told her about my whole life story and from there she promised me that she would always be there for me and she was going to protect me, she 26 which isn't much older than me so I kind of look up to her as my older sister from a different mother. She got out my third year being in jail, since then a lot of things have changed. I still have bad flashbacks and nightmares about what happened that day, and my OCD doesn't help it, I constantly think if I don't do something my brain is telling me to do then he'll come back and hurt my mom or something. The car ride consisted of me and her talking about life and just catching up. I haven't spoken to my mom since the incident happened, I don't even know if she's alive or still lives in the old house, even if she did, I don't think I would be able to go back and face her after what happened, she never attended my court trials which kind of broke my heart, but it's whatever. Me and Isalia are planning to go out tonight but of course first I have to do a little bit of shopping so currently we are headed to the mall and then after we're going to back to our shared apartment.

When we arrived, we split up immediately, we had completely different tastes in clothes. I headed upstairs to this really fancy clothing store, one thing I forgot to mention my parents had a shitload of money, since I was young, I had an allowance making at least $3,000 in just 4 months, I got good with saving up my money and learned about financing while I was young, so I'd be able to manage my money smartly in the future, and since this is my first day out I want it to be special, so you already know I'm going to buy something perfect for this occasion even if it means shopping on the more expensive side. I start looking through the dresses, I don't like vibrant colors, I like more of the muted colors and shades like brown or a wine-red color. Tonight, I was feeling more of a black though. There were four other people in the store, but only two of them caught my attention. It was this tall man dressed in black head to toe with a throat tattoo, jawline probably sharp enough it could cut with visible facial hair. Only reason I was drawn to him was because a woman, I'm guessing his girlfriend was making a huge scene and screaming like a mad woman. I tried ignoring it thinking she'd eventually shut up, but she kept going, even going as far as to through some of the clothes on the floor, the man didn't even look bothered, but she was really starting to get on my nerves, going on a rant about nothing. 'Can you shut the fuck up damn. Like do you have proper manners in a public space?' I questioned finally after a while. 'Excuse me?' she turns her attention towards me and so does the man. 'If you don't like the clothing here you can leave instead of causing a disturbance, nobody wants to hear you bitching over a problem that you can easily solve by leaving. If you won't buy the dresses other people will, stop being a stuck-up bitch.' I roll my eyes and turn back around pulling out two black dresses that caught my eye. I hear the man chuckling as I walk back to the dressing rooms to change. Now that I'm thinking about it, he looked so familiar, I swear I seen him somewhere before. Anyways I went ahead and picked this short black dress with a lace to tie it however you want. I found some matching hills at a different shoe store, and I met up with Isalia. 'You will not believe what just happened in this store I was in,' she can hear the annoyance in my voice and giggles, 'Please enlighten me.' I sigh before starting, telling her all the details we laugh as we walk out the mall. In my peripheral vision I see the guy from the store, it looked like he was watching me, but I just ignored it and got in the car, and soon Isalia started driving back to our shared apartment complex.

Today is going to be a long day.

Authors Note

Sooo, how y'all feeling about the first chapter? Believe it or not but I've been writing this since January of this year! I'm so bad at updating my books, and I am currently rebranding it to make my page a little bit of everything and not just stories based on the same two people.

DISCLAMER- I do not own Christopher 'Rio' but any other character is completely made up and a part of my wild imagination.

Just a heads up I'm trying to write the story in a Second Person Point of View so you can imagine yourself as the character so I'm trying not to be as in depth with her description. Anyways, have a lovely day/night!
