The Unclimbable Mountain

The next day, Launchpad flew everyone off to Mount Neverrest. Everyone was dressed warmly, but that didn't stop you from fussing over them. Particularly Dewey and Webby, who you knew were going to attempt to sled at every given opportunity. The memories were old, and fading, but you clung to the story as well as you could.

"Tuck your pants in, Dewey." You told him over the roar of the plane as Scrooge began his traditional adventure speech.

"They are, Aunt (Y/n)!" He whined as you adjusted Webby's hat.

"All good, Webby?" You asked, to which she nodded militaristically.

"A real adventurer is prepared for all weather conditions, Aunt (Y/n)!"

You turned away from Webby's (e/c) stare and back to Scrooge's rant. That was another wonderful thing about being in Duckworld, everyone's eye color was unique. The triplets all had green eyes, like Della and Scrooge, and Donald's eyes were as blue as the sky. You knew that Webby's eyes weren't anything like Mrs. Beakley's... but you just had to pretend that her eyes were (e/c) due to her father.

"Okay, so instead of spending Christmas in a billionaire's mansion waiting for Santa Claus-"

"That man is not allowed in my home!" Scrooge told Louie, who had interrupted his speech about the unclimable Mount Neverrest. "He knows what he did."

You rolled your eyes, making a fake puppet with your hands that blabbed along to Scrooge's speech about Santa. The kids laughed at your mockery, but stopped abruptly as you turned around, nose to beak with Scrooge. His glare sent chills down your spine, but at the same time you shrugged it off, having seen that look a million times.

"Does he, though?"

"Oh, you would side with that holly jolly hooligan!"

As he rambled on about Santa's irresponsible nature, you listened to Huey's side-lecture about Mount Neverrest.

"The mountain's summit remains shrouded in mystery! No one's ever seen the top, which makes it the perfect place to earn my Junior Woodchuck cartography badge!" Huey held up a round patch in the shape of the globe. He pointed at an empty space on his sash.

"Huey, zip your coat!"

The rest of the ride was an overexcited exchange between Scrooge and Huey about the best way to make their way up to mountain. The pair of them were more excited than a child on Christmas Eve, with Scrooge eager to be the first to step foot on the mountain top and Huey ready to map it. As Launchpad crashed the ship, you gripped the seat so hard your knuckles turned white. You loathed that your primary mode of travel had to be the most frightening of them all.

This time, Launchpad had buried the plane so deep in snow that he had to tear the door off, allowing snow to flow into the hold as your eyes adjusted to the blinding light of the sun on the snowflakes.

"Drink it in, everyone!" Scrooge announced as he exited the plane. "Her deadly peaks, her bottomless cervices, her flawless sheets of brilliant white snow betray a new hint to the ancient secrets hidden beneath, completely untrod by man!"

"If only he could talk to hens like that!" You whispered to Dewey and Webby, who fought off a fit of giggles as you followed Scrooge.

"Behold!" Scrooge spread his arms out as he reached the top of the hill. "The untamed majesty of Mount Neverrest!"

With a pleased smirk, you watched the children's faces light up as Scrooge's fell. Mount Neverrest had become a booming tourist attraction since the last time you were here, bustling with shops and resorts while skiers, snowboarders, and hikers alike took the smaller, less intimidating slopes of Mount Neverrest at their leisure. The kids ran off into the resort without a second thought. Scrooge, slouched over, looked at you as you beamed.
