The world was fading to black. Pressure crushed your every muscle as you were buried, losing oxygen, too scared to open your eyes. You used every ounce of your strength to push a hand towards the sky, grabbing onto the first thing you could reach. Your fingers latched onto a long, cold rod as your other hand tightened it's grip on Launchpad, who had fallen beneath you.
With a swift tug, you were ripped from the quicksand. Scrooge had pulled you out of the trap with his cane, and your grip on Launchpad had resulted in a chain of children being pulled from the pit. Soon enough, everyone was out of the trap, the last being Louie as he coughed out sand.
"And that's why you don't scream while sinking it quicksand!"
Though you were gasping for air, you found it in you to speak, "Good one, Webby."
"Webby," Louie managed as he hacked up more sand, "Don't tell me how to die!"
You helped Dewey stand and brushed more sand off of your clothes. Before entering the pyramid, you had left your jacket outside, leaving you in a tan tank top and (f/c) cargo pants.
"Don't worry," Webby said as she helped up Louie, "I've read all about the ancient pyramids! I'll show you the ins and outs."
"Would love to focus on the outs."
You grabbed a lighter from your pocket as Scrooge made a makeshift torch out of spare bandages. He lit up the room, revealing old hieroglyphs carved into the stone.
"Ha-ha!" Scrooge gazed up at the mural nearby. "I was right! The tomb of Toth-Ra, Bringer of the Sun."
"No!" You clenched your fists, but begrudgingly handed a quarter over to Scrooge, who flipped it proudly before pocketing it. "Stupid Toth-Ra. Couldn't be Cleo-ducktra's resting place. I could've sworn this was the wrong pyramid..."
"We've been searching for decades, and- Launchpad!"
Scrooge's speech was interrupted by Launchpad munching on a burrito behind the group.
"Did you want a bite?"
"This is the last of the lost pyramids, show some respect!"
"This is great!" Huey said as you began followed the hallway. "Pharaohs from this period were typically entombed with treasure, servants, jars full of vital organs-"
"Ignoring the bad parts!" Louie shouted to his brother, his voice amplified in the narrow hall, as he slipped between you and Scrooge to blaze ahead.
"Louie, wait!" You snatched his hoodie, but not in time to prevent him from opening the next door. A trapdoor covered in sand opened beneath you, and down Louie went with you with him. Of course, Scrooge latched onto your ankle with his cane, Launchpad tried to grab Scrooge, and everyone ended up rocketing down a dirty stone tunnel that split into two slides down the way. Louie was headed straight for the middle, but you swung him into the right side hard enough that you both managed to head straight down the slide.
You landed headfirst in a pile of golden coins that took the brunt of the blow. You crawled out of it, but not in time to avoid Webby's body as she slammed into your back.
"Sorry, Aunt (Y/n)!" She said quickly as she helped you up. You groaned as you reoriented yourself, thinking you were delusional when you only counted two ducks.
"Webby? Louie?" You looked around. Clearly you'd taken the chute to the treasure room, which was overflowing with gems and riches. It reminded you of the Money Bin, only much smaller. You whispered a curse to yourself as you realized the others must have gone down the other slide. "Well, at least Scrooge is with them. Kids, try not to touch anything cursed- Louie what did I just say!"
