JULIAN.
Their house feels so homey, not big or extravagant but neat and beautifully decorated. I could tell Jared is currently wishing he could disappear from here, not that I wouldn’t follow him if he had that ability.
Papa Chris and Mr David has been reminiscing non-stop. I don’t understand why he had to drag us along.
I am glad for Mr David’s progress, I am. But this is just not my scene. There are plenty of things I could be doing instead of sitting down here.
Ini came back into the living room with a tray of cups.
With a smile, she handed a cup to her dad and Papa Chris each. The smile automatically disappeared when she approached Jared and I. She gave us a cup each and we murmured a ‘thanks’.
“Hmm, tongue-pleasing as usual.” Mr David commented looking at his wife after taking a sip of the tea.
“She makes the best tea.” He said to Papa Chris and his wife slapped him lightly on his arm looking embarrassed.
“Your husband wasn’t lying.” Papa Chris said after taking his own sip and Mrs David smiled.
“If only I had met you before he did, I would be having this kind of tea every morning for my whole life.” Papa Chris added with a wink.
Here we go.
“You really haven’t changed, Papa Chris.” David said with a chuckle while his wife laughed.
“You got lucky, I tell you.” Papa Chris said.
“Well, this woman here is taken and is not interested in our Papa Chris who is in his eighties.”
“What a shame!” Papa Chris exclaimed.
Mrs David’s kids were looking perplexedly at Papa Chris. This is just a normal habit of Papa Chris and his own way of joking but they don’t know that. I took a sip of my tea and nodded at the taste, it’s good.
Nothing special but it’s good, it tastes like tea.
Jared made a very bitter expression after raising his cup to his mouth. I was confused, is there something in his tea? Mrs David noticed and her question caught the attention of others as well.
“Is something wrong with the tea?” She asked.
Jared didn’t answer and just stared speechlessly at the cup.
“There is nothing wrong with the tea, What we should question is Mr Christopher’s taste buds.” Praise answered his mother’s question definitely offended by Jared’s reaction.
Jared glared at him and the boy stared back unfazed.
“It’s…. salty.” Jared said bluntly and I groaned internally.
“What?” Mrs David’s face fell.
“Jared, not here.” I murmured in a warning tone.
He looked at me and his expression? He wasn’t trying to cause trouble, he was saying the truth. I took the cup from him and took a sip.
Now this, definitely does not taste like tea.
My eyes snapped intuitively to Ini and I immediately knew she did it. For the first time since I’ve known her, she actually looks scared.
I smiled facing Jared and pushing my cup to him.
