chapter fourteen; UNEXPECTED SURPRISE
5th july 2024"Mr. Snow going for his communi pad" Lucky commented in his mic. Tanner threw his chain, hitting Lucy Gray in the leg. She fell to the ground with a groan. She grabbed a rock nearby and threw it at Treech's feet. "Hey, Coral. You mind if i take this one?" Treech smirked as they all itched closer to her.
"Not a chance." the red-head replied, lifting her trident behind her head, ready to throw it at Lucy Gray. Though none of them could hurt her as eight drones with water surrounded them. The drones hitting each of them.
"Hey! You can't attack the tributes." one of the other mentors said. "I'm just sending water," Coriolanus shrugged. Annie could see the smirk hiding on his face. "You, idiots." Coral said between breaths as they got up. Mizzen coughed and groaned. Lucy Gray had gotten away and hid. "How could you possible let her get away?" Coral asked furiously.
"Couldn't see a thing," Treech stated before being grabbed by the shirt by Coral. "Get this water into a pile, Lumberjack. And then when you're done you two can watch that beam while we get your friend from back home at least." Coral hissed. Annie was intrigued by how easily she could boss them around. Treech hurried putting the water bottles into a pile.
But then he stopped when he saw the pack moving for Lamina. He couldn't help but feel like a betrayer. He couldn't let them kill Lamina. Treech gripped onto a water bottle, storming towards Tanner. He smashed it into his head. Making Tanner fall to the floor. The bottle shattered giving him cuts. "What the heck, lumberjack?" Coral stopped in her tracks. Looking angrier than ever. Treech wasted no time and ran for the beam.
He shoved Mizzen out the way, giving him an apologetic look, and climbed up the beam. Then prayed that Lamina wouldn't see him as a treath and kill him. When he reached the top, Lamina had gotten up and held her axe ready to defend herself. "Please, Lamina. I'm so sorry," Treech begged her. tears forming into his eyes. "Watch out!" Lamina shouted as Mizzen attacked him from behind with his net. Treech fell on the beam, almost falling all the way down. The net was stuck around his head. Mizzen yelped as Treech tugged on it, trying to get out of it.
Everyone in the audience was shocked to see the district seven partners teaming up. Annie shifted her gaze to her brother in his peacekeeper uniform. He was watching the screen with a small glimt of hope in his eyes.
Lamina then pushed Coral off the beam. Although she did manage to grip the side where she climbed up and slid down instead of falling. The girl glared up at the two but knew better then to attack again. Mizzen was left alone with the two others up on the beam. He was scared without Coral. Lamina cut up the net that was still around Treech's neck. Now Mizzen was defenseless. But neither of Lamina or Treech made a move. "Go." Treech mouthed. The younger boy nodded and fled the scene.
Lucy Gray was then noticed by the pack. She had emptied every water bottle beside one. Once Mizzen had arrived back in the ground they all ran after Lucy Gray. She managed to hide inside something, crushing Coral's finger during the process. She let out a shriek and slammed her trident into where she was hiding. Embarrassedly she glanced back at the two boys. She stormed past, shoving Tanner and called them useless.
They all went back to where the last bottle stood. Tanner bent down reaching for it. "Hey. You really think you deserve that water now, Tanner?" Coral stopped him. He walked slowly up to her face. "Look, you just said watch the beam." he chuckled. Coral joined in, putting a hand on his shoulder before jabbing her trident into his stomach. He let out a gasp and fell down from her push. Lamina and Treech watched from the beam with furrowed brows and clenched fists.
Coral then made her way for the water, acting like she didn't do anything. Small rumbling came from somewhere in the arena. "Coral! It's Wovey. The little one from eight." Mizzen whisper shouted to not draw much attention to them. "This should be easy." she dragged the trident out of Tanner. And grabbed his weapon to hand to Mizzen.
"Eight tributes remain," Lucky spoke. "Merciless Mizzen. Cunning Coral. Treacherous Treech and Lamina. Dill, Reaper, of course. The lone wolf, little Wovey. And Lucy Gray." he named all of the surviving tributes.
"Lamina— I'm sorry for leaving you. I shouldn't have done that. You're my friend and—" Treech started apologizing. "It's fine. At least you held your promise," tears dropped from her eyes. "What promise?" Treech questioned softly. "You didn't hurt me." she chuckled in reply even though she was now sobbing.
Treech hugged Lamina tightly. She didn't deserve to be here. She had always been the nicest girl since they were young. He remembered as kids she always had a bandaid on her in case any of her friend got hurt. She had given Treech one several times as he was very clumsy while climbing trees with friends.
If the two managed to be the last ones, he was willing to let Lamina live and go home instead of him.
