BANG! BANG! BANG!
All the fire-fighters hit the floor.
"What was that?" Gallo asked rather loudly.
"I don't know." Casey shook his head.
"Shh, it sounded like gunshots..." Liv whispered to her team, gesturing for them to be quiet..
The community centre was a big place. There were many rooms and hallways that looped around the main hall in the centre of the building. On the other side of the building, Squad 3 were still searching the building when the gunshots went off.
"What was that?" Cruz whispered as they all hit the deck.
"Squad bail out." Severide ordered his team.
"What about everyone else?"
"We're no good to them getting involved. The best thing we can do is get out whilst we haven't been seen and call in the mayday." Severide told his team quietly. He hated leaving the others but knew the best course of action was alerting dispatch to the situation they were in. Squad quickly, but quietly, left the building without being seen.
"MAYDAY, MAYDAY! This is Squad 3, we need immediate police and SWAT back-up. Active shooters are our current location. I repeat active shooters at our current location. Truck 81 and ambulance 67 are being held at gunpoint." Severide shouted into his radio as soon as they were clear of the building and in relative safety.
"Capp, Clarke. Clear the street. Set out a corden until PD arrives. No-one comes by on foot here." He instructed his team
"Cruize, Tony, move the trucks to block off the street." Severide told the remaining members of his Squad. The last thing he wanted was innocent by-standers to get hurt.
Back inside the building, Truck 81 were still trying to figure out what was going on.
"We need to get out of here." Liv whispered as she looked at Casey. Another gunshot sounded, making the firefighters jump.
"NOBODY'S GOING ANYWHERE!" Multiple men appeared, pointing guns at the members of Truck 81.
"Look man, nobody wants trouble. We're not cops. Just let us go." Casey tried to reason with them.
"Shut up!" One of the men screamed, shoving a gun in Casey's face.
"Everyone get in the hall!" Another one screamed, waving his gun about. The group of firefighters didn't have a choice and were forced into the main hall. Liv looked over as she saw Chase and Heidi being held at gunpoint in the middle of the hall. There were two men on the ground surrounded by a pile of blood. One of the guys was moving but the other wasn't. Liv couldn't see any signs of life and by the size of the pool of blood around him, he was probably already dead.
"Look, we don't want any trouble. We were here because a fire alarm was sounded-" Liv tried to reason with them.
"You're here because you're going to help them!" The guy who seemed to be in charge shouted, waving his gun towards Olivia.
"We're the medics, we'll do it." Chase said, reaching for a pair of gloves. Heidi looked like a deer in headlights. She was frozen.
"Move then!" One of the others shouted, shoving the two paramedics forward. Heidi shakily knelt down next to one of the men on the ground. She quickly pulled on a pair of gloves before she felt for his pulse. She shook her head. They already knew he was dead.
"He's dead..." She told them
"Dammit!" One of the gunmen shouted as she kicked a chair, sending it flying across the hall, making Heidi jump.
"No, no. You can help him. You're going to help him." He shook his head, in denial that he was already dead.
"He's bled out, there's really nothing I can do-"
"SHUT UP!!" He shouted, shoving Heidi to the ground. By now she had tears in her eyes.
"Look, he might be dead but this guy's not. Let us help him." Chase tried to defuse the situation as he assessed the other guy on the floor.
"He's going to need his medical bag to help your friend." Liv said out loud. They had made the two medics leave their bags by the door when they were dragged into the hall. The guy glared at her.
"I can get it-" Heidi tried to get up off the floor but instantly had a gun to her head.
"No!"
"Not her! You, you do it!" The gun shouted, waving his gun towards Olivia.
"Okay, okay." Olivia pulled out a pair of gloves from the pocket and put them on as she crawled over to help Chase.
"Like I said, we're going to need that bag if we're going to help your friend." Liv repeated calmly, pointing over to the medical kit on the floor a few metres away from them.
