Opening

The espresso machine hisses woken from it's slumber.
The sun has not arisen and the groggy eyes do meet,
On a day that is both bittersweet and somber
For our chipper stepping feet.

We greet their sleep-deprived faces with warm, bright smiles.
They shove a ten on the counter and wearily shuffle away.
During the shift we'd tread two or three miles,
But you helped to start my day.

Even when they shout at us short-tempered and haughty,
We step in with a solution never-ending for a perpetual problem.

So, knowing that you leave, my partner Scotty,
Opening now, makes parting less solemn.
