No one deserves to be told they won't amount to anything. The worst pain ever felt is having one's life decided for them before they have the chance to define themselves. I want to pursue theater because it helped me become more in tune with who I am, a person who likes to shine a light on others. Most people join theater to stand in the spotlight; I joined so I could cheer on their progress at the rehearsal, in the wings, and from the house.
I learn, so I can help others progress, whether I am writing, choreographing, or designing something my strength comes in lifting others up. In a world of negativity that rallies to oppress rather than impress, I am vital in making sure arts can remain a positive place. I cooperate and lead others to their potential while testing my own.
I have been diagnosed with anxiety and it makes it difficult to lead at times and I have fallen into the occasional slump, but I work to recognize when I need that help and as a team player, I try to be the person that others can count on when they themselves are in that state. Mental health can't be ignored, and I will always use my position to help others any way I can; if it is through a set of lyrics that consoles, a dance that resonates, or a design that expresses how they are coping with their situation, then I will have done my job as an artist.July 8 2021 MA
