THE GROWLS WERE probably one of the loudest things she had heard in a while. Okay, maybe that was a lie because it was only that morning when she was beside the dead quarry and those noises were beyond loud.

Kloe stood far away from everybody, an arm folded across her chest as she nervously bit her nails.

Rick had returned.

He wasn't alone.

He brought back a big portion of the herd that were on the road with him. They pushed all their dead bodies' weights against the walls and most of the Alexandrians had to go find some things that would help with keeping the wall stable. Everyone was out of their houses, either intrigued, spooked, angry or flat out petrified.

Kloe was all of them at once, plus devastated.

"You can hear it," the voice Kloe was particularly familiar with spoke, catching everyone's attention. He strutted through the crowd, resulting in some people shuffling out of the way hastily. "Some of you saw it. They got back here, half of them. Still enough to surround us twenty deep." People became distressed, tears filling their eyes. "Look, I know you're scared. You haven't seen anything like this. You haven't been through anything like this. But we're safe... for now."

With the hand she was using to ease her stress by biting her nails, she ran it across her face. Her nerves had never been so high. In a situation like this, she would always make sure to be as close to her husband as possible... But that wasn't possible anymore. He was gone.

She didn't have time to grieve. Not then.

WIth a puff of her cheeks, she took deep breaths. She felt strange so suddenly. Knowing now that she was... carrying a child, it felt as if she was abnormal. It scared her to a small extent.

"The panel the truck hit seems intact," Rick continued and pointed toward the mentioned panel. "We reinforced it just in case. Either way, the wall's gonna hold together." Someone stood beside Kloe. She looked to the side and spotted Brianna, who seemed like she was controlling her emotions and remained completely calm. "Can you?"

The Alexandrians inched closer to having a breakdown.

"The others, they're gonna be back," Rick reassured, and Kloe felt everything within her fall off the face of the earth. She looked down at the ground as she suffered the undying, agonizing pain of heartbreak. She never thought of it to be true... then she knew.

"They're gonna be back," Rosita stated, nodding her head. Everyone turned to face her, and she seemed to be the one holding onto the most hope out of them all. Kloe envied her.
