The last Friday before the summer break came quickly. It was kind of sad how fast my high school life had ended just like my senior year. I should had been probably excited for the new chapter that was coming, but watching my friends argue about some TV show was telling me otherwise. These almost frequent afternoons at the café wouldn't be here any more.
The school was over and I didn't even know who exactly had the idea to come over here. To hang out here before Henry's shift was supposed to start and the rest of us would slowly go our own ways. Most likely to our homes.
For the time being, we mostly talked about our plans for the few upcoming weeks. Such as family trips or part-time jobs or some similar things. All the strange feelings of sadness about graduating went out of my mind as fast as they came then. There was no time for that.
"Hey, I think I'll get some cake," I announced, making everyone glance in my direction. "Anyone anything?"
Jade smiled, nodding, to which she stood up just as I did: "Yeah, I'll go with you."
"I want that blueberry muffin, please," Liam glanced at us again with a smile on his face.
Nodding, the two of us then went to join the queue, standing behind six people. Thankfully, there weren't many people in the café but this afternoon still seemed to be busy. Busier than other times we visited the place. This time of the year seemingly made some businesses become busier.
Once I was supposed to say my order, I went for something new for today - Cappuccino. I then glanced back at Jade, who was looking at the blackboard on the wall across from us: "He said blueberry, right?"
Jade nodded, to which I told the guy behind the counter the rest of my order and went to the side to wait for my coffee and Liam's muffin. The said pastry was soon put on the counter for me to take and I couldn't help but think that the thing seemed a little dangerous.
"If you survive eating this, then everything's possible," I stated as I was soon back to our table with Liam's blue muffin and my coffee. The black-haired boy shot me an annoyed look but said nothing as he took his pastry from me.
"I told him this too, but he just loves weird things," Henry laughed, making our friend groan:
"You're one to talk."
My eyebrows shot high on my forehead as I wasn't entirely sure what they were talking about. Henry acted sometimes weirdly, of that I knew. However, nothing I until now had witnessed was ever close to them eating something that looked this dangerous.
The boys were at each other's throats for a while, entertaining us, whilst the rest of us became quiet. Leah said some things from one moment to another, becoming a part of their friendly argument. It was indeed fun to watch, but slowly getting boring and maybe even annoying. I really couldn't understand how they could do it almost all the time. Even though I felt a bit jealous of that kind of relationship they had.
"Jeez, I feel like those years went by quicker thanks to Covid," Leah groaned, almost slamming her phone onto the table, which made the rest of us look at her in surprise. She was right, but I wasn't really sure what led her to those thoughts.
"Well, you're right, but... like calm down, girl," Jade laughed, patting her black-haired friend on the shoulder. Exactly my thoughts, Jade.
Our second round of coffee and desserts was consumed much quicker than the first one, or at least it seemed that way to me. Everyone had their plans for later that day, after all, so it made sense. And so, the minutes went by and the only one of us who stayed at the café was Henry while the rest of us slowly parted our ways outside.
