3. person POVThe control center, bathed in the cold glow of monitors, holding the secrets of their twisted maze existence. Y/N's gaze fixated on the woman in the white suit, lifeless but with an air of authority that clung to her even in death.
The monitors hummed with eerie energy, displaying the intricate dance of life within the maze, controlled from this very room.
~ Flashback ~
Ava's lifeless eyes seemed to follow Y/N as she delved into the labyrinth of her own memories. The outside world, scorched by the relentless sun, bore the scars of a viral apocalypse. The air was thick with the scent of decay, and the distant moans of the infected echoed like a haunting melody.
In the sepulchral light of the control center, Y/N's mind transported her to a time before the maze, a time of terror and infected hordes. A younger version of herself stood in a sterile, white facility, surrounded by guards and scientists. Y/N trembled, her eyes wide with fear and confusion.
Ava, in her pristine white suit, appeared as a beacon of authority. She approached the frightened child – a paradox of warmth and cold authority. The room echoed with the distant hum of machinery and the hushed whispers of secrecy. Y/N clutched a worn teddy bear, seeking solace in familiarity.
Ava, her demeanor both maternal and stern, knelt before the child. "Y/N, my dear, the world has changed," she said, her voice carrying the weight of responsibility. "You're special. And I need you. You my child hold the cure—the key to saving what's left of humanity."
Y/N looked up, eyes wide with innocence and incomprehension. Ava's words were a puzzle, a riddle of a reality that defied the boundaries of a normal childhood. As the child trembled, Ava continued, explaining the viral plague that had ravaged the world, turning it into a desolate wasteland. But Y/N did not seem scared of that. No, the flare did not scare her. This woman, this beautiful women as white as the angels, that was what scared her. But why? Why would the woman that takes such care of her, be the reason for the knot forming in her tummy? She brushed it off, after all she was safe now.
They sat together in the sterile room. The walls seemed to close in, but Ava's presence became a reassurance to the otherwise frightened child. She spoke of hope, of a mission to unlock the secrets of the young minds she had gathered. Y/N listened, captivated by the vision of a world beyond the sterile walls. A world with fields of greens, oceans glistering as the sunlight reflected of off it. A world free from the flare, the very same flare that took her mother and father – a place where children could be children.
Yet, the mystery lingered. Why had Ava chosen her? What connection did they share that transcended the confines of this facility? The answers remained elusive, veiled by the passage of time. The child and Ava locked eyes. Hope glimmering in both their gazes – each with their very own vision of a brighter future.
~ End of flashback ~
The air in the control center hung heavy with the weight of revelation. Y/N's breath caught as the last images of the flashback played out—Ava's face, a mix of determination and sorrow, before the scene faded into the sterile walls of the maze's control room. Sterile walls that now seemed oddly familiar.
Back in the present, Y/N felt the cold reality of the maze surround her. The monitors blinked with a ghostly glow, and Ava's lifeless form served as a haunting reminder of the enigmatic woman who had orchestrated their fate. The knot starting to form in Y/N's stomach once again, the very same knot she felt back then.
As Y/N blinked away the remnants of the past, determination welled within her. The maze held the answers, and she would unravel its secrets. The connection with Ava, shrouded in mystery, fueled her resolve to confront the truth.
In the silence of the control center, Y/N whispered Ava's name, a vow etched in the echoes of yesterday. The maze awaited, a labyrinth of trials and revelations, and Y/N, now armed with the fragments of her past, was prepared to navigate its depths with newfound purpose.
