chapter nine: moving on

LANDO's POV:

I've been walking round the block for the past 20 minutes, just thinking really of what to say to Max. I've found myself at his apartment block finally and head inside. I know he's at penthouse like me so I get into the lift and click for penthouse. It only takes a minute before I'm standing outside the door, waiting to knock.

I finally bring up the courage to knock and after a second or so, Max opens the door. "What the fuck do you want" he says angry. I sigh, "Max. We need to talk." I say nodding to him. He nods slowly and then opens the door for me, I walk inside. "Is Kelly not home?" I ask. Max shakes his head, "She's gone to the gym" he says. I nod and he gestures to sit down on the sofa, so I sit down and he sits on the other side. "What do you want Lando" he says rubbing his forehead. "We need to talk about Melody" I say resting my arms on my thighs. He scoffs, "She's the last person I want to be talking about." Max says. I smile. I see the sibling resemblance. Stubborn.

"What are you smiling for?" Max asks confused. I chuckle, "I can just see the resemblance between you and Mels." I say shaking my head. He nods, "What did you want to talk about. Because if your asking for my blessing. It's not happening." He says folding his arms. "I just wanna ask one thing before i start, why did you give Melody this ban on the drivers" I say. Max smiles, "It's complicated" he says nodding slowly. "I've got time" I say leaning back in the sofa. "Melody actually dated one of the drivers I was on the grid with a few years back" max starts. I raise my eyebrows, "She did? Who?" I ask confused. "Jake Paige." He says bluntly. "Really?" I ask. He nods. "They were together for 6 months maybe. One night, on Jake's birthday. I came upstairs to find Melody, just so I could tell her that it was time to go home and I walked in on Jake raping her whilst she was passed out." He says not looking to me anymore. My heart drops. I can't even say anything, he can clearly read my expression so carries on. "I dragged him off her and pushed him out the room. I was angry. I was hurt. I didn't know what to do. My sister was fucking helpless and I didn't know what to do but push him off her." He says. I can see tears in his eyes. "Max I'm so sorry" I say feeling them coming in mine myself.

"Does she know?" I ask him. He looks to me. And slowly starts to shake his head. My eyes close and I drop them into my hands. "I don't know how to tell her" he says choking on his tears. I move closer to him  and embrace him, "Max I'm so so sorry" I say. He hugs me back, "I'm sorry for reacting the way I have about you two. I just don't know how to stop a situation like that, ever happening again and I guess this was the only way I felt I could protect her" he says trying to hide his tears. "My god Max. I'm sorry for the way I was reacting towards you. I was angry cause I love her" I say. Max pulls back, "You love her?" He asks me. I nod, "More than fucking anything" I say.

Max blinks slowly and looks to the door. "I'd never ever do anything like that or even lay a hand on anyone Max" I say hurt. He nods, "Lando. I trust you with Melody. You really do have my blessing here." He says turning back to me. I nod, "Thank you Max. I'll protect her. From anyone and everything I promise" I say. He nods, "But Max". I say turning to him again as I stand up. "You need to tell her" I say. He nods, "I will Lando. I think I'm going to tomorrow morning." He says. "I'll bring her over. We'll do it together."  I say forcing a smile and walking out.

I can't believe this. I just want to protect her from now on. As much as possible.
