"Babe! Hurry up!" my husband Rodrigo shouted from downstairs.
"Yeah, yeah! I'm just trying to find Sofia's bunny!" I shouted, crouched under our eldest daughter's bed, trying to find her favourite toy without which she just couldn't fall asleep. My eyes scanned the room, trying to find that damn thing when finally, a rock fell from my heart, seeing it in the nappy pail.
"Got it!" I shouted as I hurried down the stairs with it. Rodrigo was waiting for me, our 9-month-old daughter Blanca on his arm, while two and a half year old Sofia was playing with her toy vacuum cleaner - she loved cleaning and I regularly had to pull her away from the cupboard where my poisonous cleaning chemicals were stowed."Let's go!" I announced and after closing our door, we walked to the already packed car. We were driving to my brother-in-law's countryside house where we would be celebrating New Year's with a few other friends who had kids too. Life changed completely after having kids - but I loved it. Rodrigo and I had met at uni, him being four years older than me though. I asked him for directions on my first day and he asked me out a week after that encounter. Next summer, he graduated in law, me just having completed my first year in media and communication. After that, he started working in a law firm, and I graduated with honours two years later - just a month before getting married.
We had chosen a different path for our lives and decided to start a family early. Rodrigo wanted to open up his own law firm after a few years of experience - with my help and PR knowledge that I had hopefully gained from my degree. That was the reason for us having already two kids this early - and a third one was on its way as I had just found out this morning. However, I postponed telling Rodrigo to tomorrow as he definitely wouldn't have been able to hold the secret tonight and I didn't want everyone to know yet.
For me, it was a perfect compromise - I got to have kids early while my body was in its best fitness and shape before starting my career alongside my husband at thirty, the kids in school then and me able to fully focus on work. Rodrigo was perfect for me, he was my great love and treated me like a queen.
"Earth to Isa" he said, snapping his fingers in front of my face and I saw that we had arrived at my brother-in-law's place. Our girls immediately started playing with their cousins and friends after getting inside, the kids all being almost the same age, though my sister Carmen was five years older than me. It was a wonderful evening, the kids going to bed around nine, giving us parents a chance to ring in the new year in relative peace and calmness.
"Happy New Year. I love you." Rodrigo whispered before kissing me.
"Happy New Year. I love you too, baby" I said and nudged his nose with mine.📍 Begues

marco.rubiales 🔥😍🥳Around three in the morning, we decided to get back home and loaded the sleeping kids and all of our baby equipment back in the car. When we arrived at our small house, nine-month-old Blanca continued to sleep in my arms and I was able to lay her into her crib without problems. Rodrigo wasn't as lucky with Sofia though and I heard her howling up in her room. It went on like that for a few minutes, before I decided to get in too.
"You guys need help?" I whispered to my husband.
"I can't find the bunny" he hissed back.
"It wasn't in the car, I checked before getting out if we had everything... Sshhhhh-, I forgot it on the counter in the entrance at Carlos' when I put on my coat" I said, recalling my last steps.
He groaned but walked towards me and put Sofia into my arms.
"I'm going to drive and get it" he told me.
"No! Come on, it's late... It's a 40 minute drive! We'll just let her sleep in our bed this once" I said. We were strict opponents of letting our kids sleep with us - we just wanted to maintain our privacy and being able to be intimate as we didn't want to lose that part after becoming parents. We just needed that for our relationship."I'll be quick, promise. Bye" he said and gave me a peck on my lips before hurrying out the room. I sighed and sat down in the rocking chair in Sofia's room, shushing her and hoping that she'd somehow fall asleep and Rodrigo would be back soon so that I could lay her in bed with her bunny then. Apparently, we both dozed off in the chair though and I was rudely awakened by the doorbell ringing downstairs. Ughhh, that idiot must have forgotten his keys. Sofia hadn't woken up from the noise miraculously and she even continued sleeping when I laid her down in her bed. Unbelievable.
I hurried downstairs and opened the door, being met by two police officers instead of my husband's face.
"Um... can I help you?" I asked diffidently. Maybe they were robbers or serial killers, just dressed up and they would try and make their way inside any second. Why did this have to happen when Rodri wasn't at home?
"Are you Isabel Vasquez?" one of the men asked with a serious expression.
"Yes...?" I asked confusedly.
"Ma'am, I'm very sorry..." the other officer started before speaking out loud the words that would change my life forever.
