Thomas Thorne is the son of little-known playwright, Alburt Thorne.

Thomas's story began in a small town in Scotland, born as a healthy baby in his father's cluttered seaside cottage. Thomas always loved to run and sing near the bay, feeling free as he was whisked away to another world, one of his imagination.

When local youths began bullying him, mocking the child about his love for singing, Thomas turned to poetry.

The rhymes and sweet-smelling paper were a certain escape from daily life for Thomas until his father died and he and his mother were sent away to England. There they stayed with Thomas's cousin, Francis, and his parents, Marius and Margery Button.

When Thomas was sixteen, his mother ended up dying of poisoning (a result of fourteen-year-old Francis's 'harmless' jokes, when he swooned the waitress enough to let him slip some 'flavour' into the intended Thomas's drink.

Thomas is devastated and becomes heavily addicted to a substance (drug) called Opium, and eventually gets out of the habit almost four years later, when he first meets Isabel Higham, the beautiful daughter of Lord Higham, unfortunately, Francis has fallen for her too. But right now, Thomas is a quiet nine-year-old boy, who doesn't quite know what to do with his feelings.

Ok wow that went on a lot longer than I expected to jeepers Thomas has a nearly as dramatic backstory as himself!
