STEPHEN CURRY
San Francisco, CA.

Around 10am, I made my way to Alani's house. Her birthday was a week ago and to my surprise, it went well. I was proud of how she interacted with Kiana and how she made an effort to get to know her even though had her guard up.

When I arrived, the house was quiet. The family returned to their respective homes. Usually Raelyn would be awake by now, begging her mom to make pancakes. I mentally facepalmed myself when Klay walked down the stairs.

Oh, so this nigga is spending the night now?

"Steph, what are you doing here?" Klay asked, confused.

"I should be asking you the same thing." I replied. "Where is Alani and Raelyn?"

"Raelyn is still asleep and Lani just got out of the shower. We had a long night." Klay said casually, making sure I knew what he meant. He started taking out breakfast ingredients, looking completely comfortable while doing so.

"I'm making breakfast. Are you going to be joining us?"

"No! Alani and I actually-"

"Wardell? What are you doing here?" Alani interrupted me. Her hair was wet and it was hard to miss the glow she was sporting.

"New Curry Brand designs came in and I wanted to run some designs by you. We've had this scheduled for weeks now." I reminded her.

"Oh shoot. It must've slipped my mind."

Obviously.

"I need you to help me with his new colour way so let's just get this done." I suggested. Klay's gaze turned to me as Alani pulled out the chair next to me by the kitchen island.

"Can't this wait? I mean, I was about to make us breakfast." Klay gave Alani a pleading look.

He seriously doesn't believe that'll work, right?

"Not really." I answered for her. "Alani is on the design team at Curry Brand and she also owns a percentage in the company. We're not only best friends and parents to Raelyn but we're also business partners. I don't think you can really compete with that."

"Wardell, seriously." Alani side eyed me.

"What?" I shrugged. "Besides, I don't want Raelyn getting used to having him around."

"Don't even act like it's about her." Klay finally spoke up. "You're obviously jealous. Which is annoying because you have a girlfriend. Me being with Alani should be the least of your concerns."

"I don't care about what you two do together. I don't want Raelyn getting used to her mom's sneaky links making her breakfast the next morning. You don't have children, so I don't expect you to understand."

Klay was about to say something but Alani stopped him. "I'm not doing this with you two again. This shit is so 2019."

"He started it!" Klay pointed his index finger at me.

"What are we? Twelve?"

"Okay, that's enough." Alani said in frustration. "Klay, let me and Wardell work on this and I'll call you after."

Klay looked defeated but he didn't argue with her. He went upstairs to grab his things, I'm assuming.

"We need to have a serious discussion about your relationship with him." I turned to Alani who rolled her eyes.

"We're not in a relationship." She clarified.

"I know how this is going to sound, but I don't want him coming here anymore."
