Peter Stark was thrilled, he was the son of the billionaire Tony Stark and today he was spending the day with his best friend, Cooper. Peter had met him when they were both 5, as Tony introduced him to Hawkeyes family, him and Cooper were roughly the same age so the two boys instantly hit it off and they were best friends from that day. They told each other everything, from their crushes to who they hated from their school.
✯
Peter was 13 when Flash first started being violent towards him. He was shoved into a locker and had broken his nose and then a fist had punched him in the eye which was definitly going to leave a mark the next day. Peter had run straight out of school that moment and taken the bus to where Cooper lived instead of going home, he didn't want his dad or the Avengers to see him like that.
"PETE! WHO DID THAT TO YOU!?" Cooper yelled as he opened the door to greet his friend.
"Noone, don't worry about it, do you have a first-aid kit so we can fix my nose?" he asked and Cooper nodded, running up to the bathroom to grab the kit.
Half an hour later, Peter had a bandage wrapped on his nose and a bag of ice on his eye.
"So, Peter Stark. Tell me what happened" Cooper ordered and Peter looked down to the ground. "I fell down the stairs" he tried to lie but the other boy just sighed. "That is the worst lie I've ever heard, I thought we could tell each other everything" he said and Peter sighed and decided to tell him, they were bestfriends after all. "One guy named Flash shoved me into a locker and then hit me, that's all" Peter told, trying to play it off as if it didn't matter, but the young Barton didn't buy it. "That's all? He should be punished for that, does he know you're a Stark?"
"No, everyone at school thinks I'm Peter Parker"
"Well, get your dad to teach this idiot a lesson Pete" Cooper suggested but Peter shook his head.
"I don't want to cause trouble" he just said, and then thanked his best friend for helping him before leaving to go home to his dad.
✯
Peter was almost 15 when he got bitten by the radioactive spider. At first he felt sick, so he didn't tell Cooper anything as not to worry him, then he felt better and decided it was just a normal spider, so there wasn't anything to tell. As he got powers he wanted to learn to control them fully before telling so he wouldn't accidentally hurt him. He wanted Cooper to be the first he told, so he ultimately decided that Ned and MJ - the two he hung out around with at school - couldn't know, and of course his dad and the rest of the Avengers were out of the picture.
Then Ned found out by some stupid mistake, but that meant that Peter could get the needed help to upgrade his suit, but he still couldn't get himself to tell Cooper, he was scared he was one of those with the same opinion as Jonah J. Jameson. Peter was planning on telling him; he just hadn't found the right time yet.
✯
Peter arrived at the Bartons' house and knocked on the door. Cooper flung the door open and stared at him with a grin on his face and shining eyes. "Finally!" he exclaimed and pulled the boy up into his room. They talked for a while before Cooper took in a big breath. "I need to tell you something Pete, as my bestfriend you deserve to know-" he told and took in another big breath, "-I think I'm bisexual" he exhaled reliefed now that the secret was out and Peter smiled, his friend had sounded so serious he was afraid there was something wrong.
"That's okay Coop, I support you and I always will." he stated and the boys hugged.
"Have you told your family yet?" Peter asked curiously and Cooper shook his head.
"No, I wanted you to be the first I told" he explained and Peter smiled. "Thank you Coop" he grinned and then his spider-sense spiked and the door opened, a bow was drawn and an arrow flew towards them.
By pure instinct the spider spun around, and webbed the arrow to the wall behind. The arrow in question being a dull toy-arrow that would've done nothing but give them a shock. The brunette looked up and stared into the shocked eyes of Clint Barton, still with the bow in hand.
"Peter Stark! Are you Spider-Man!?" he asked with raised voice and Peter stood frozen in place, not able to mutter a word. Stupid spider-sense and stupid reflexes!
"What! No! Of course he isn't! That is a webshooter we made for fun, it's for a science project" Coopers voice shone through to Peter and he looked at him with thankfulness written all over his face. Clint left the room with a visible sigh of releif and Peter did a 180.
"Thank you so much Coop!" He said and Cooper looked at him mad. "I thought we were bestfriends, you shoul've told me!" He screamed with a voice filled with grief over the betrayel.
"We ARE bestfriends! And I was planning on telling yo-" Peter was cut off by Cooper.
"CUT THE LIES! I trusted you and told you EVERYTHING! Don't you trust me?" He asked and Peter got tears in his eyes from seeing their friendship being torn apart right in front of him.
"Of course I trust you"
"Then you should've told me. Go away from here! I don't want to see you again!" Cooper yelled and Peters heart broke into a million pieces.
"What? You don't mean that! Right? We're bestfriends!" he asked and Cooper turned away from him. "No. We're not friends anymore. Go away" Cooper said and Peter did as he was told.
When Peter got home to the tower he just went straight to his room. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He tried to text Cooper on his phone but he had already blocked him so the spider just decided to head to bed.
The next weeks passed in a blur for the spider, no matter what he did, all he could think about was the look of betrayel on Coopers face when he turned around. His dad must've taken notice of this because he kept asking what was wrong and all the spider did in response was to shrug and walk away. At some point Tony must have spoken with Clint and found out that the two boys didn't talk anymore, and Tony being the great dad he is, decided to take his son for a ride in his car so they could talk.
"so Pete, why aren't you an Cooper talking anymore?" he asked and Peter shrugged. "We had a fight, I had a big secret I hadn't told him while he had just shared something really personal with me, so I guess he felt betrayed" Peter explained and Tony nodded.
"well, that's just bullshit, I think you two should try and apologize to each other, you can't let such a simple thing get in the way" the billionare told and then Peter looked at the familiar road they were driving; they were on the way to the Bartons'.
Peter and his dad arrived and Tont knocked on the door, Clint opened it and looked at Peter.
"COOPER! YOU HAVE A GUEST!" He yelled in order to get his sons attention. Soon after Cooper came down the stairs, but his smile turned to a frown the moment he saw Peter. "Dad, I told you I didn't want to see him" he told but his dad didn't seem to care and both Tony and Peter was let inside. "You two talk and make up, this little feud is foolish" Clint ordered and Peter decided to start with an apology.
"Look, I'm sorr-" he started but was quickly interrupted.
"YOU'RE SPIDER-MAN AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME! I'M YOUR BEST FRIEND! WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TELL EACH OTHER EVERYTHING!" Cooper yelled but smacked his hands over his mouth as he realized his mistake. Tony and Clint turned their heads towards the boy simultaneously.
"YOU'RE WHAT!?" His dad questioned and Peter shrugged. "I just wanted to do good like you do, so when I got bit by a spider and got powers I did it" he explained and a soft smile played around his dads lips before they pulled into the serious grimace again. "We'll have the talk when you come home, so enjoy the day here" the billionare stated and then left the house along with Clint - he had some business to attend at Stark Tower - so the two boys were left alone.
"Pete! I'm so sorry for telling him and getting you into trouble, I didn't mean to!" Cooper cried and Peter immedeatly hugged him, as he had missed his best friend. "I'm sorry too! I should've told you about Spider-Man, I just wanted the timing to be right, but I think I waited for too long" he explained and they both just embraced the hug, enjoying finally being besties again.
"I also think I overdid the situation, but I had just told you the biggest secret of my life and you hadn't told me yours, I just felt betrayed. Sorry" Cooper explained while scratching his neck.
"It's fine, I really should've told you, I was just scared you were one of those JJJ-fans and you would hate me, you're my bestfriend, so your opinion just mattered a lot to me" Peter explained as well and they both laughed. The Barton stretched out his hand for the other to take.
"Bestfriends again?" he asked and the spider lit up with a smile and took the hand.
"Always"
