Chapter Six

Three days had gone by since my talk with Ronan. Tomorrow night was the Pack Ball, the last thing he promised her before breaking up with Christa. I was looking forward to hearing he broke her heart. I had an evil grin on my face when Katie walked in. She was smiling and wearing her usual bright as fuck outfits that Barbie herself would be jealous of. Her blonde hair was even in a high ponytail, looking gorgeous. I looked down at myself in my usual outfit. My jeans were old and worn in the knees and where my thighs rubbed together. My tee-shirt was an old rock band my mom listened to all the time, and half my hair was thrown into a bun while the rest was just brushed but very curly from the storm about to roll in. In conclusion, I looked like a homeless person about to ask you for spare change, while Katie looked like she was about to sell me a wonderful five-bedroom home and then go to brunch with the rest of her friends.

"Ali! What are you doing later?" She grabbed my shoulders in excitement. Henry and Gabe stood behind the counter with their books. They liked coming here to fake-read their textbooks while they spied on us or talked in front of us. Since I told them Christa paid me a visit, they wondered if she would do it again.

"Well, as you can tell by my appearance, I'm modeling later."

"Okay, good, so nothing. Wanna help me shop for a dress?"

"Actually, she'll need one too, if you don't mind being my date?" Gabe showed off his dimples. His grin was wide and contagious.

"For what?"

"The Pack Ball!" Katie jumped in the air and squealed.

I looked over at Gabe, who put his hands together and made a begging motion at me. "You want me to be your date?"

"Excuse me?" Ronan approached us, leaning against the counter next to Gabe.

"Well, since everyone else is going, it sounds like I'll be missing out. Yes, I'll be your date."

Gabe smiled and raced around the counter to me, hugging me and spinning me around. Ronan looked upset but knew he had nothing to say to me then. I would bring up his girlfriend if he complained about me going with Gabe. I would bring up his girlfriend if he complained about me going with anyone but him. In fact, if he complained about anything, I would bring up his girlfriend. I had the high ground on this one, young Jedi.

Katie kissed Henry's cheek before he and Gabe went to sit in their usual spot while she and I went to clock in. Gran Gran's office was stuffy and crowded with filing cabinets because computer files were too complex for her. Katie sat in the chair while I leaned against the table top and made more coffee. I had been there all morning and only had one cup while Gran Gran was running around on more than half a pot of coffee.

Ronan walked in and spotted me immediately. He pulled my hips to his and leaned into me. He kissed me a little harder than I expected. He caught me by surprise, so I made a weird high-pitched noise. I tapped on his shoulder, wondering if he scanned the room before attacking me like this. Poor Katie pressed the keys on the keyboard a little harder to make her presence known before getting up and hurrying out of the room. "No, it's okay, I'll leave."

She gave me a wink and thumbs up in the door frame before disappearing. I chuckled before turning back to those sapphire blues with knitted brows.

"Ronan, what's wrong?"

"I don't like the idea of someone else with their arms around you in a beautiful dress. You their date instead of mine."

"Kinda like-"

"I know I have a fucking girlfriend! I have no room to talk, but I still don't like it."

I laughed aloud as he put his forehead to mine. Ronan's eyes made me want to jump into them and swim around forever with him. He was intoxicating with his scent, and I loved how small I felt with him. It was like he was about to scoop me up and put me in his pocket to take me with him all day. I loved the sparks I felt when he was touching me. Everything felt magical until we had to return to reality.
