Sophia's Pov-

"Then why can't you marry him? He was your crush. You were crazy about him for 3 years," my best friend Evelyn said.

I was at Evelyn's house, pacing back and forth in her room. I poured out everything that had happened earlier that morning.

"I was just a kid back then. But now things have changed. I don't want to marry anyone" I replied, sitting down beside her.

"But you have to marry someone. Your mother is even more stubborn than you" she said, sighing.

"What can I do? I don't want to get married, especially to the man who rejected me before."

"Well, then there must be something else you can do" Evelyn said, crossing her arms. "No" I shook my head. "Then get married. You can't do anything about it" she stated matter-of-factly.

"I thought you would come up with a better solution" I said, feeling a bit disappointed. "You know you have to get married. If you don't want to marry Asher, then find another guy" she suggested.

"But how can he agree to marry me after all the things I did on that blind date?"

"Who told you to wear a short dress?" Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Google," I whispered. "Fuck Google. You should've asked me for a plan," she exclaimed.

"Please don't be mad. Just give me a solution" I pleaded, looking at her with hopeful eyes. She sighed and finally said, "I have a plan." I looked at her, eager to hear it. "Marry Asher and..." "Seriously? You're telling me to marry him?" I interrupted. "Yeah, marry him and then get a divorce later," she suggested.

"Ugh, seriously? Marriage is no joke!" I rolled my eyes in disbelief. She seemed to think it was a simple solution. "And what if something happened between us in a year?" I questioned, feeling hesitant about the whole idea.

She gave me a side-eye and raised an eyebrow. "Why? You want something to happen?" She asked.

My eyes widened, and I shook my head. "No way! That's not what I meant at all" I exclaimed. "I'm just worried about what could happen between us during that year. You know, like in books and dramas."

"Hey, don't worry. You can totally avoid any complications. Just make sure not to fall in love with him," she said. I didn't have any other choice.

I took a deep breath, determined to follow her advice. "I will not"

I sat in the backseat of the car, sandwiched between my mom and dad, as we made our way to the Walker Mansion. Celine Walker, Asher's mom and my mom's friend, had kindly invited us. My mom took this opportunity to give me a little pep talk about how to behave in front of Asher's parents.

"Remember, don't do anything silly or embarrassing" she warned. I rolled my eyes playfully and said "Mom, trust me, I won't do anything stupid." She gave me a skeptical look.

As the car pulled up to the grand entrance of the mansion, we all stepped out. A friendly maid greeted us at the door and led us into the living room. There, Asher's parents, Celine and Travis, awaited our arrival. We exchanged warm greetings, and Celine gave me a tight and comforting hug.

I had met Celine on several occasions before, and she had always been a kind and beautiful person. Unlike my mom's other friends, she never bombarded me with questions about marriage. But I didn't know she was Asher's mom.

Travis, Asher's dad, was also a good friend  my father. It was no surprise that Asher had inherited his parents' good looks. They were truly a stunning couple.

"You look absolutely beautiful, Sophia" Celine complimented me, her smile radiating warmth. I blushed and replied, "Thank you, Aunt Celine"

Despite my efforts to stay calm, I couldn't shake off the jitters. All I wanted to do was escape from the room, but I knew I had to stay put. My mom would have my head if I did anything impulsive.

Just as my nerves reached their peak, I caught sight of Asher entering the room, a smile playing on his lips. He greeted my parents, and I couldn't help but notice the joy that lit up their faces, especially my mom's. She couldn't stop gushing about how handsome he looked. He was just smiling and nodded shyly at her.

He looked at me and smiled, and my heart started racing as I gazed into his ocean blue eyes. "Hey, Sophia," he said, extending his hand for a handshake. I stare at his hand, but I gathered the courage to shake it. Just the touch of his hand sent shivers down my spine. "Hey," I whispered back, feeling nervousness.

During dinner, my dad, Asher, and his father were deep in conversation about business stuff. Meanwhile, my mom and Celine were chatting about Asher and me. I felt shy and nervous, sitting next to Asher, not knowing what to say.

Then Asher's dad turned the attention towards me and asked "What's your hobby Sophia?". It felt like I was being interviewed! My mom quickly jumped in and said, "Cooking! She loves cooking." I couldn't help but roll my eyes because, honestly, I can barely boil water.

But of course, my dad chimed in, proudly saying, "Yes, Sophia is a good cook." Ugh..He was lying. After all, he once banned me from the kitchen after I almost burned it down while attempting to cook.

Celine joined in, saying, "That's a great hobby!" I just nodded along, not wanting to draw any more attention to myself. Then Travis mentioned that Asher also enjoys cooking and often prepares meals for himself since he lives alone.

"I enjoy cooking too," Asher added, surprising me. I had never seen my dad cook, But despite his attractive qualities, I wasn't ready to think about marriage or anything like that.

Throughout dinner, Asher and I didn't exchange many words, but I couldn't help but steal glances at him. I mean, who wouldn't? He looked incredibly handsome in his plain white shirt, like a celebrity or even more attractive. With his ocean blue eyes, jet black hair, and perfect jawline, he was definitely eye-catching. Girls were crazy about in high school. I was sure that so many beautiful girls were dying to marry him.

Then why me?
