Chicago River, West Rosevelt, Chicago Illinois

Jay slammed on the brakes throwing the truck in park, watching in horror as the car hurdled through the air and straight into the river under them. Jay threw this phone and radio on the ground as he heard Erin calling in the scene. "5021 George's other half, we need CFD at West Rosevelt, a vehicle drove over the bridge... send divers victim and wanted offender are in the vehicle," Lindsay said to the radio as Jay went over to the edge of the bridge noticing the car was almost fully submerged. "Jay, what are you doing?!? Stop!!!" Erin yells as he lept off the bridge and into the water as the car fully submerged under the water along with the detective.

Jay swam towards the car noticing the back seat was empty as he swam closer to the front driver's seat he noticed Evan sitting in the front seat knocked out from the impact of the crash. Where the hell is Sam? he thought as he started running out of breath. Jay pulled the driver's door open and yanked him out and dragged him up toward the surface.

When Jay reached the surface he could hear more sirens approaching. "Over there!" someone yelled as Jay dragged Evan over to the river bank where the fire department was, Evan and Jay were pulled out of the river by Matt and Kelly. "I couldn't. She wasn't in the front, or back seat" Jay said out of breath "I'll get her," Kelly said to Jay wearing full diving gear before he disappeared into the river. Gabby and Sylvie were resuscitating Evan, but Jay was more focused on Kelly finding Sam. Evan started coughing up water and Erin instantly cuffed one of his wrists to the stretcher as a second ambo arrived.

Kelly swam down toward the bottom of the river and over to the trunk of the car pulling it open to find Sam laying there unconscious. Kelly pulled Sam out of the trunk and began pulling her up toward the surface. He got to the surface and started swimming to the side of the river where Matt was waiting.

He pulled Sam up and out of the river and onto a second stretcher, "I can't find a pulse," Matt said as Sylvie started doing compressions and Gabby pulled out the defibrillator. "Come on Sam," Jay said from next to Sylvie as the brunette started choking up water.

Sam started coughing and her eyes flew open, "Sam, can you hear me?" Sylvie asked as Sam looked around confused. "what happened?" she asked wondering how she got here, "We're gonna get you checked out at med, Jay you wanna ride with us?" Gabby asked Jay who nodded as they loaded Sam into the back of the ambo and he hopped in the back along with Sylvie. "Why do you look like a drowned cat?" Sam asked Jay as Sylvie started going over her vital. "I'm just really glad you're okay," he replied.

Chicago Medical Center, Chicago Illinois

It didn't take long for Sam to roll into the ED where she was checked over by Dr. Hayes while Will was hovering in the doorway with Jay. "What happened?" Dr. Hayes asked, "Driver drove over a bridge with Sam in the truck, unconscious on scene, resuscitated in the field and her vitals have been stable since," Gabby said looking at Dr. Hayes who nodded. "I wanna get a chest and lung x-ray to start, I'm not liking that head injury" Will said. "Also a head CT and CAT scan as well," Dr. Hayes said as she took off her stethoscope. "May I," Sam nodded as she started listening to her lung sounds as she took deep breaths.

"Everything sounds good for now, we're gonna run those scans and we'll go from there. I'll give you guys a minute," Dr. Hayes said looking between Will, Sam, and Jay before she made her way out of the room. Slowly everything came rushing back to Sam along with a massive headache, how Evan attacked her in the firehouse and knocked her out. She woke up in a dark small space, hearing the sirens, screeching tired before she was slammed into the roof of the trunk and knocked out again.

Sam started sobbing uncontrollably as Jay walked over and pulled her into a hug as she continued to cry on his shoulder. Will joined their hug and after a minute they let go and Sam wiped her eyes still crying but her sobs stopped. "We got him Sammi, he's going away for a very long time," Jay told her. Sam looked up at him sniffling, "it's done?" she asked him through tears as he nodded. "It's done, he's on his way to the district now, "Jay told her. "He's getting charged with everything along with 1st degree murder of a Chicago Police Officer," Antonio said from the doorway.

"He killed an officer?" Sam asked horrified, "The patrolman parked outside 51," Antonio replied. Sam felt lost in a whirlwind of emotions as her mind kept replaying everything over and over again. She couldn't wrap her head around it all, none of it felt real.

It didn't take long for Dr. Hayes and April to bring a wheelchair in and take her upstairs for her CT and CAT scan before sending her for her chest and lung x-ray. Sam was quiet partly because she was exhausted but also because once again Evan had tried to kill her and almost succeeded. Sam reminded herself of what Jay said 'It's done, he's on his way to the district now'

"Look I know we may not be close, or work together often. If you need someone to talk to or not talk to about what happened I'm here for you," Dr. Hayes told Sam as she was wheeling her back to the ED. She'd seen Dr. Hayes in passing and worked together once but Sam didn't go out of her way to make conversation with her either. Sam was like that with most of her co workers in the ED except for Will and Maggie but even with Maggie she didn't say much to or open up to, Sam kept to herself for the most part.

Sam nodded, "Thanks," she replied as they got off the elevator and made their way down the hall to the ED and into her treatment room. Will and Jay were still waiting for her to return, Will helped Sam back onto the bed. "The scan results should be back soon, I'll let you know what they say. Also, Maggie's working on getting you moved upstairs for the night, I wanna keep you here tonight under observation to make sure there aren't any delayed complications before discharging you," Dr. Hayes said. "I'll be back to check on you in a bit," she said before she left the room.

Dr. Hayes as in... Derek Morgan's Wife? Perhaps... Yes, it's 100% her. I hope you liked this chapter, sorry for the roller coaster there with Evan. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and thank you so much for all your love and support!
