Jay Halstead's Apartment, Chicago Illinois
Sam spent the next morning putting her work clothes for Med away and making sure her clothes and uniform for 51 were clean and in her work duffle bag for her shift tomorrow. Afterward, Sam took a bus to the grocery store and picked up food for Jay and herself when she got home from her double hectic Wednesday shift.
Sam would spend Tuesday night on call as a paramedic with 51 and Wednesday morning Will would pick her up and drive her to Med for her day shift in the ED. Meaning Sam wouldn't be back to the apartment until Wednesday night and she'd be exhausted.
Sam took a cab back to the apartment with all the groceries, brought them inside, and put them away in the kitchen. Noon rolled around shortly after that, and the brunette grabbed some leftover Chinese food from the fridge. Sam reheated the food and took a seat at the counter, while she waited for her food to cool off she glanced at her phone sitting on the counter.
Should she take a chance? call Luke? Sam wondered. You can either go for it or be scared of change and never know what could have been, Sam told herself before she let out a sigh thinking about what Jay said. The brunette got up from her seat and grabbed her bag pulling out her wallet and the card Luke gave her bringing it back over to her seat. Sam stared at the card and the message a few times flipping the card in her hand.
With a deep breath, she picked up her phone and dialed the number Luke wrote on the back of the card in black pen. Sam pressed the green button and the line started ringing and ringing. "Alvez," Luke said answering the call, "Hey, it's Sam," she said awkwardly. "Hey, how's it going?" Luke asked. "Good, How about you?" she asked trying not to be as awkward as she felt. "Good," Luke replied. "I was wondering... If you still wanted to get a coffee... together?" Sam asked and face palmed how awkward she made that sound.
"Yeah, definitely. I would love to," Luke replied causing Sam to smile. "I'd say how about tonight, but I'm in the middle of a case," he said. "That's okay, we can grab a coffee when you wrap up the case... Um, my work hours are rather crazy though so we might have to plan around that... Sorry," Sam said. "No need to apologize, My work hours are also kinda crazy too but, I'm sure we can figure something out," Luke said causing Sam to smile. "Sounds good, shoot me a message when you wrap up the case and we'll plan from there. As long as you don't plan to spill my coffee over me again," Sam said joking. "I'm still so sorry about that," Luke said again. "It's okay, not the worst thing that's been spilled on me. Especially in the ED," Sam replied. "Hey look, I gotta get back but I'll talk to you later," Luke said. "Talk to you later," Sam replied before she hung up the line.
Sam set the phone back on the counter stunned and excited. She couldn't remember the last time she was asked out she typically was the one to ask other people out and usually got rejected or ended up with the wrong guy... like Evan. This felt different though, a good different, and also scary to Sam. Like treading into uncharted territory
21st District Police Department, Chicago Illinois
Alvez stood in the breakroom of the intelligence unit, making himself a mug of coffee after Sam's unexpected call. Honestly, the agent didn't think she'd call, especially after his embarrassing run in with her at Chicago Med.
Alvez took a sip of his coffee looking over the profile they had on the board, off to the side of the room; as unit chief Emily Prentiss walked in the room with JJ. Dr. Reid and Dr. Lewis were looking into profiling their unsub's comfort zone using their past disposal sites.
Alvez glanced out the window thinking about his upcoming date with Sam. Where should they go? How many coffee places are even in Chicago? Luke asked himself already knowing Dr. Reid would probably know the answer to that question.
"Earth to Alvez?" JJ said waving at the agent and pulling his attention back to the group. Luke looked at JJ confused for a second. "What's got your head in space?" Dr. Lewis asked him noticing the agent was staring out the window, not to mention he'd been smiling when he got off the phone not long ago she noted. "What? Nothing," Alvez replied brushing it off with a smile. "What or who?" Prentiss asked him with a smirk "C'mon you can tell us," JJ said noticing the smile.
"This wouldn't happen to be about a certain nurse, would it?" Prentiss asked Alvez who smirked but hid it immediately. "What about a nurse?" JJ asked curiously looking at Prentiss and then Luke. "It might," Alvez replied to Prentiss. "She called?" Prentiss asked surprised, "Yea, she called. Why do you sound so surprised," he said more than asked already wishing he hadn't.
"Well...considering you made the poor woman spill her coffee on herself. Yes, I am I little surprised," Prentiss said teasingly as Luke shook his head. "That was completely an accident," he replied, "You poured coffee on a girl and still got her to call you?" dr. Reid asked putting the pieces of the conversation together. "It was an accident I didn't see her coming around the corner," Alvez replied. "Now can we get back to it," Luke asked them wanting to turn their focus back to the case.
There was a knock on the open break room door and, Detective Lindsay stepped in the doorway. "There's another victim," she said sadly as she and the other detectives made their way out of the office except for Mouse and Jay who waited for the agents to file out before walking out of the building with Alvez.
Crime Scene, West Loop Chicago Illinois
Jay was quiet as intelligence went over the crime scene with the BAU. Right before they left to look into Pod footage in the area Jay broke the silence walking over to Luke as he was about to get back in the FBI issued SUV. "Sam was asking me about you," Jay said causing Luke to pause and look at him. "She was? What'd she wanna know?" Luke replied raising an eyebrow.
Jay was quiet sending him a glare, but Alvez didn't move or break eye contact. "Look man, I know you asked Sam out. I don't care about that. That's between Sam and you, but I do care if you hurt my sister. If that happens we'll settle things the way we did in the Rangers," Jay said staring Luke down the entire time he spoke. His voice was calm but extremely serious, Luke nodded. "I'd never hurt Sam, and If I ever did I'd deserve to get my ass kicked," Luke replied sincerely noticing Prentiss and JJ were watching them as they stood in front of the open SUV doors.
Jay stared at Luke for another long moment, "I'm serious man, I seriously hope you mean that. She's been through enough." the detective said before walking back over to his partner and leaving the crime scene. "So the nurse you asked out, is Detective Halstead's Sister?" JJ said more than asked Alvez on the drive back to the district. He nodded, "Ah, I see. the overprotective older brother speech," Prentiss teased glancing at the agent from the rearview mirror as she drove.
