Ambo 61 pulled out of Med and Sam couldn't stop smiling, "Who was that?" Sylvie asked Sam glancing at her with a smug smile. "That's Luke, he's friends with my brother that's how we met," Sam replied with a smile. "Will?" she asked, "Jay," Sam replied as her partner nodded. "Why was he at the scene? Does he work for the CPD?" she asked confused, "He works with the FBI, he and his team were helping Intelligence with a case they were working on," Sam replied as they pulled up on scene.

Sylive parked the ambo and the two paramedics hopped out. "Help, Hurry come quick!" A girl yelled from the front door of a small house. They grabbed their jump bags and ran towards the house following the girl inside and into the living room where another girl around 23 was lying on the floor convulsing. Sam and Sylvie made their way over to the girl, and they both instantly noticed the pills, drugs, and alcohol on the table nearby.
Sam instantly pulled out the Narcan and administered it up the girl's nose. She woke up a few seconds later but almost instantly started convulsing and foaming at the mouth again. Sam and Sylvie were both confused by the woman's reaction. "the Narcan should've worked," Sam said looking at Sylvie who looked at the woman that led them into the house.
"This is extremely important, you need to tell me what she took," Sylvie asked. the woman shook her head panicking, "i- I don't know. i found her like this," she replied. "Let's get her in the ambo, I'll drive us to med," Sam said before she ran outside to grab the stretch and bring it back inside. They loaded the woman on the stretcher and got her into the back of the ambo where Sylvie administered another round of Narcan. Sam climbed in the front of the rig and sped off towards Med with the lights and sirens blaring.
Sam and Sylvie dropped their OD patient off at Med and made their way back to 51 when they got another call to a house fire in Canaryville. The rest of the shift until Wednesday morning was none stop call after call and Sam was exhausted by the time shift ended.
Firehouse 51, Chicago Illinois
Sam changed out of her CFD paramedic uniform and into her hospital scrubs putting her CFD uniform in her bag to wash when she got home. She closed and locked her locker and started making her way out of the firehouse. "Hey, have fun tonight and I wanna hear all about it later," Sylvie said referring to her coffee date with Luke. They made their way down the driveway, Sam smiled at Sylvie. "I'll let you know how it goes," Sam replied before she walked over to Will's car.
Sam hopped in the passenger seat and buckled up, "Morning," she said exhausted as Will started driving towards Med. "Long shift?" he asked glancing at her, Sam was resting her head on the window as they drove. "Yeah, none stop since yesterday," Sam replied letting out a yawn.
In all honestly after being forced to take a few weeks off to recover then going back to the usual 6 day work week was exhausting. "I'm gonna need an energy drink and double expresso," Sam said more to herself as Will pulled into the staff parking lot of Med. "Come on, let's get you some coffee," Will said after he parked the car and the two Halstead siblings climbed out and made their way into the building.
Chicago Medical Center, Chicago Illinois
Sam and Will made their way over to the coffee cart and grabbed their morning coffee and something to eat before they took a seat at an empty table. Sam was quiet as she drank her coffee hoping it would wake her up more. "Have you had a chance to look over the ED schedule yet?" Will asked her after a few moments of silence.
Sam shook her head no, "Maggie usually puts me on the same shifts," Sam replied as she started to eat her muffin. "You might want to take a look at it, when I checked it before I left last night it said you were working a night shift Friday and Saturday night," Will said as he took a sip of his coffee. Sam sent him a confused look as she finished her blueberry muffin. "Alright, let's go see what my week is gonna look like," Sam said as she got up from her seat.
Will got up as well and the two Halstead siblings took their coffee, before heading into the ED. Sam and Will made their way over to the nurse's station and Sam took the binder that held the weekly shift schedule on the front and Time off Requests slips were inside the binder.
As Sam looked over the shift schedule she noticed Will was right. She worked today's day shift until 7 Pm, She had Thursday off until 8 pm where she was on shift in the ED until 8 AM, she had the day to rest and recover and had to be back in the ED Friday night until 8 am, along with Saturday night into Sunday morning. Then Sam had to be back in the ED Sunday night until 8 Am Monday morning.
Sam covered her mouth with her hand as she looked over the shift schedule realizing she would be exhausted by the time her shift at 51 rolled around. "Don't you work at 51 Monday through Wednesday?" Will asked looking at the schedule from next to Sam who nodded. She let out a sigh. "Good morning, if it isn't the Halstead siblings," Maggie said with a smile as she walked over to the two.
"Morning Maggie, I had a question for you about the schedule," Sam replied. "Look I had to move some shifts around we're really short staffed this week," Maggie replied as Sam nodded. "That's okay I was just wondering if there's any way I can switch off the Sunday night shift? I have to be at 51 Monday morning at 7," Sam replied not wanting to cause an issue but it was also up to her to make sure both work schedules between the CFD and Med wouldn't overlap or interfere with her other job.
Maggie sent Sam a confused look before she looked at the schedule in front of Sam. "I don't have anyone that can take that shift but I can come at 6 to relieve you so you can get to 51 for your shift," Maggie offered. "Thank you, Maggie," Sam replied, "Dr. Halstead, Sam you have a patient waiting for you in treatment 4," Maggie replied as Will made his way to the Doctor's lounge to put his stuff in his locker. Sam set her stuff in an empty space on a shelf behind the nursing station.
Sam made her way over to treatment room 4 as Will was leaving the doctor's lounge. "You're gonna burn yourself out with these hours and your shift at 51," Will said to Sam with concern in his voice. Sam let out a sigh and shrugged, "I'm just starting to save enough, I might be able to get my own place by the end of next month," Sam replied.
"Is everything okay with Jay?" Will asked wondering if maybe that's why Sam was overworking herself. Sam nodded, "Everything's good, at least as far as I know," she replied. "I worry you're gonna overwork yourself out," Will finally said as he stopped walking. Sam paused and looked at her older brother. "We'll cross that bridge if and when we get there," She said with a shrug before making her way into treatment 4 followed by Will.
