Chicago Medical Center, Chicago Illinois
Sam was moved upstairs into a room for the night, Jay hadn't left her side since they brought her into the ED. He was shaken up, watching the car crash over the bridge with her inside the trunk. Jay was just glad Erin got Evan away from him shortly after he was resuscitated. Sam ended up with a mild concussion and 4 stitches on her forehead. Not to mention a black eye and split lip.
A knock sounded on the door to the room causing both Jay and Sam to look in the direction. They were greeted by a wave from Gabby, and Sylvie at the doorway. Behind them was Matt, Kelly, Boden, and the rest of 51 still in full fire gear. "Hey, how are you feeling?" Sylvie asked as she walked into the room along with the rest of the house. "I've had better days..." Sam replied forcing a smile. "We're just glad to see your okay kid," Herrmman said to her, "What's the damage?" Kelly asked her. "A few stitches and a mild concussion," Sam replied, "Take as much time as you need, Halstead. Your position on Ambo will be there when you return. For now, I can pull a name from the floater pool," Boden said.
"I can step in on Ambo for a few shifts until Sam's back," Gabby offered as Boden looked at Casey who nodded. "I'm okay with that," Casey added as Boden nodded. "Ambulance 61, Truck 81, Squad 3, multiple vehicle collision I-90 and Wicker Park," Dispatch called over their radio. "I'll come back and check on you in a bit," Sylvie said with a smile and wave as she left the room. Everyone else sent her a small wave telling her to feel better soon.
Sam spent the night at Med along with Jay who didn't leave her side the entire night sleeping on a chair next to her bed. Will finished his double shift and crashed on the small couch on the other side of the room from Sam's bed.
Sam spent the night tossing and turning waking up almost every hour with never ending nightmares. Dr. Hayes stopped in around 7 am after the nurses came in at 6 and went over her vitals and machines. "How are you feeling this morning Ms. Halstead?" Dr. Hayes asked walking into the room. "Achy if I'm gonna be honest and please call me Sam," she replied. "That's not entirely unexpected, your body might be achy and sore for a couple of weeks. If the pain gets worse I want you to come back. For the concussion, I want you to take it easy, sleep, no TV, phone, or screens, and try to keep stress to a minimum for the next couple weeks," Dr. Hayes told her.
She went over what to expect from the concussion before she started the paperwork to release Sam. Before she was discharged from the hospital Ms. Goodwin and Chief Boden stopped by her work letting her know that she was on medical leave until she was medically cleared to go back to work. Chief Boden mentioned programs through the CFD if she needed help after what happened. Ms. Goodwin also mentioned that if she needed to talk Sam could always come to her or the hospital has members of staff she can talk to like Dr. Charles and Dr. Reese if she ended up needing the resources.
Jay Halstead's Apartment, Chicago Illinois
The minute Sam and Jay walked through the door, she walked straight over to the couch and lay down. "Nope, there's no way you're sleeping on the couch," Jay said noticing Sam lying down. The detective walked over to her and picked the brunette up as Will kicked his shoes off at the door. "What are you doing?" Sam asked confused, "Letting you take my bed, so you can actually rest, and heal," he replied carrying her down the hall into his room.
Jay laid Sam on the bed and tucked her under the covers, Will walked into the room and went over pulling the curtains closed to block out the sun. "You don't have to do this, I can crash on the couch," Sam replied letting out a yawn. Jay shook his head no, "It's okay, get some rest Sammi. If you need anything we'll be down the hall okay?" Jay said placing a kiss on her forehead before he made his way out of the room along with Will.
Sam fell asleep before they even left the room, while Jay and Will went back out to the living room. Will sat down on the couch, "Want a beer?" Jay asked as Will nodded. The detective made his way over to the fridge and pulled out two bottles of beer cracking the caps on both. Jay handed one of the open bottles to Will before he took a sip.
The two stayed quiet for a minute, "Can you do me a favor tomorrow,?" Jay asked Will who looked at him and nodded "Sure," he replied. "Stick around here for a bit and keep an eye on Sam for me? Evan's hearing is tomorrow," Jay said. "Yea. Of course," Will replied. Ms. Goodwin ended up giving him the shift off to be with Sam after everything that happened. "It's all over for good?" Will asked before he took a sip of his beer.
Jay nodded, "Between the murder charge of the patrol officer, domestic assault charges, abduction, and attempted murder he's not gonna see the light of day for the rest of his miserable life," Jay replied as Will nodded. "Good," he replied as the two fell into a silence, "She's gonna need help getting through this," Will said more than asked. Jay looked at him and nodded slowly, "We'll help her through it," Jay replied.
Tomorrow the detective would make sure Evan didn't get the option of bail before his court date. On his court date, Jay would be there again to witness this prick get sentenced and dropped off at Stateville Prison; where he would rot in a cell for the rest of his miserable life.
