If Devana had learned something her entire life, it's that life is unfair and short but also that death is inevitable. Devana will never forget the anger she felt those days.
The day her father disappeared.
Devana was born in September of 1930 when people were just getting back on their feet after the Great Depression. Her father had an interesting career choice and that was being one of the earliest forms of a bounty hunter.
At first, it was the regular run of the mills thieves, and others of the like but then during World War II, it turned into hunting Nazi scientists, guards, and soldiers for their war crimes.
Devana was always worried about her father but he assured her that everything was alright. instead of spending her time making friends and going on dates, she was practicing obstacle courses, learning every form of fighting around, and learning how to use most weapons. She hated it. She wished that she could have just been a normal person until that day.
In 1945, the war was coming to an end, Devana learned that her father was leaving to hunt a German scientist who had experimented on people and whose ruthlessness was known to be the worst in the world. As she watched her father leave their manor that day, she had no way of knowing that it would be the last time she saw her father. It would forever be coined in her mind as the day her father disappeared.
After it became clear that her father wasn't coming back home, she spent the entire rest of her teen years training. When she turned twenty-one she left the manor and headed on the trail of a lead to figure out who had her father. It took her three years to discover where her father was. At twenty-four she learned that her father had been hunting Sebastian Shaw, a horrifying scientist who had taken to torturing prisoners. She had also learned that her father was still alive. It took her a month to figure out how to get into Shaw's compound.
Devana snuck into the compound as soon as she could. She was in black pants and a black top along with a pair of guns. Her hair was braided and she felt its weight as she soundlessly moved through the compound. She wasn't prepared for what she was going to find. She stopped outside a door and looked through the window. There was her father in front of Shaw but before Devana could move Shaw released what looked like energy into her father. She gasped as she realized that it was nuclear energy. Shaw was a nuclear mutant. She cried as her father screamed in pain before going limp.
Devana hid around a corner as Shaw gave the order to clean up the body before leaving. The more Devana thought about what she had just seen the angrier she got. She gasped as she looked down and saw golden tendrils swirling around her hands. It seemed to just come out of thin air. She waited until Shaw was gone to slip out of the compound deciding that she wasn't strong enough to take on a nuclear mutant by herself.
That was the day she discovered who murdered her father in cold blood. It was also the day that she learned that she was a mutant who could control all types of energy. Most importantly it was the day that she vowed to hunt Shaw down and kill him for what he had taken from her.
Devana wouldn't know it yet but that resolve to kill Shaw was going to change her life forever.
