The future Devana Finley and Erik Lehnsherr tried to fight came to fruition in the worst way possible. Years into the future where there were more mutants from ones that could teleport to ones that could control ice, they were also being hunted by things called sentinels.

New York City was an authoritarian city and wasn't the only one. It was pitch black and looked much like the rest of the world in the future: dark and desolate. It was covered with war, slavery, and so much suffering on all sides especially for mutants and the humans who dared to help.

Bodies being tossed carelessly to the ground in mass graves all of them mutants or humans that had tried to help them. Erik Lehnsherr the old man that he was had been a leader of the Hellfire club since that beach so many years ago. He had tried his hardest along with the help of so many others to avoid another Holocaust but had failed.

Like Erik had failed his mother in 1942 Germany, he had failed all of his friends in the future. He had watched as Devana or Huntress had been the first of them to go. She had died protecting their family and the sentinels had ripped her apart. Iceman, Mystique, Havok, all of them gone, and more.

In Moscow, as patrolling drones hunted for mutants, they dropped Sentinels as underground hundreds of mutants lived warning each other preparing to fight to their last breath. The walls crashed through and every mutant left called on their power to help. One turned to fire, the other steel. Fireman shot fire at the Sentinels as they all attacked but it was futile.

The sentinels had already taken the most important ability of them all. Mystique's. The one that allowed them to copy any mutant's ability. The mutants were killed by their own powers and that of their friend's powers. Iceman was killed by a sentinel using firepower as a mutant with the power of fire was killed by Iceman's powers. It was a massacre. No one survived.

Well, almost no one, two survived and took the first jump in what would be a time travel journey to save the world.

In China a few days before the attack, Storm and the other remaining powerful mutants including Charles Xavier, Magneto himself, and Wolverine met up with the same mutants from the attack days later including Kitty Pryde, Iceman, and more.

It turns out that Kitty Pryde managed to send Bishop back in time to his younger self to warn them of attacks coming so that they are never even there. Magneto looked at the young mutants "this might work."

Kitty Pryde looked at him confused "what might work?"

Professor X looked at the mutants in front of him "the sentinel program was originally conceived by Doctor Olivar Trask. In the early 70's, he was one of the leading weapons engineers but in secret, he was experimenting on mutants using their gifts to fuel his own research. There was one mutant who discovered what he was doing. Her name was Mystique." The others looked at each other as Charles continued "I knew her as Raven. We grew up together. She was like a sister to me. I tried to help her but I only succeeded in pushing her away. She hunted Trask across the world. And at the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, after the Vietnam War, she found Trask and killed him. It was the first time she killed."

Wolverine looked at Charles "it wasn't her last either."

"But killing Trask," Charles continued "didn't have the outcome she expected. It only persuaded the government of the need for his program. They captured her that day, experimented on her, and tortured her. In her DNA they discovered the secrets to her powers. Her transformation. It gave them the key they needed to create weapons that could adapt to any mutant power. And in less than fifty years, the machines were created."

Pryde had gotten what the professor was getting to "you want to go back there?"

Charles nodded "if we can stop this then we can stop an entire war from ever happening."

Slowly one by one, the mutants agreed and it was decided that Wolverine was going back in time. Charles and Erik stayed with Logan as he asked "so, I get sent back to my younger body, what do I do next?"

Charles wheeled forward "you're going to have to go to my house and convince me of all of this."

"Won't you be able to just read my mind?"

Charles shook his head "I didn't have my powers in 1973. You're going to have to do for me what I did for you. Lead me, guide me. I was a very different man, you'll have to be patient with me."

Logan chuckled "patience isn't my strong suit."

"You'll need me as well."

"What?" Logan looked at Erik as he walked forward.

Erik nodded "After Mystique left Charles, she came with me and I set her on a dangerous path. It's going to take the two of us side by side when we couldn't be further apart." Logan nodded "You'll also need to convince Huntress to help."

"Great," Logan sighed sarcastically. "so where do I find the two of you?"

"Well," Erik chuckled. "For me it's complicated but for Devana you'll find her with Charles spying for me."

Charles glared at Erik "I'm still annoyed about that you know." Erik just rolled his eyes. Pryde sent Logan back and Logan Howlett woke up in his younger body decades in the past starting a time jump journey of the century.
