Humanity is a fickle thing. So is trust. Humans tend to be afraid of things that they don't understand. Both Erik and Devana understand that concept better than most.

As they both slowed to walk inside the submarine, Erik turned to Devana "I'm going to kill Shaw."

"I know," Devana spoke confidently. "He deserves it."

Erik nodded "they're going to turn on us after what they saw us do today."

"Yeah," Devana sighed and looked a little sad about it but not much. "They always fear things they don't understand." Erik nodded as they continued to make their way through the submarine.

Erik and Devana walked toward an electrical door and Charles's voice came through their head "that's the nuclear reactor. Disable it." Erik turned the nuclear reactor off and opened the door and both mutants stepped in.

Both looked around before they heard a door open and both turned around to see Shaw in some sort of helmet step out of a room. "Erik, Devana," Shaw spoke calmly which enraged both Devana and Erik. "What a pleasant surprise."

Erik and Devana looked at each other before walking towards Shaw making sure to stay close to each other. The door closed behind them "may I ask you both something? Why are you on their side? Why fight for a doomed race who'll hunt us down as soon as they realize their reign is coming to an end?" Erik and Devana looked at each other as Shaw faced Erik "I'm sorry for what happened in the camps." He then looked at Devana "and I'm sorry for what happened to your father."

Devana and Erik both looked at each other and asked the silent question: is he insane? They both agreed that he was. Shaw flung Erik back into the glass wall which cracked. Suddenly both Erik and Devana heard Charles in their head again "Erik, Devana, whatever you're doing keep doing it, it's starting to work."

Erik and Devana eyed the cracked glass and realized what was happening. The more the glass cracked, the more access Charles had to them. Shaw walked closer "but everything I did, I did for you."

Devana wondered if Shaw had lost all of the marbles in his head from the nuclear energy because seriously why the fuck would you ever say that to someone whose life you destroyed.

Shaw flung Erik into the other side of the glass and both Devana and Erik heard Charles again but this time stronger. Erik let his anger take over and ripped the entire room apart while Devana moved behind him.

Erik pushed Shaw against the wall but Shaw kept talking. Devana's eyes widened as she watched Erik get pushed back into the wall. Devana's eyes glowed gold as she stepped to the side. Shaw leaned to Erik "I don't want to hurt you, Erik. I never did. This is our time. We are the future."

Erik spoke "everything you did made me stronger. Made me the weapon I am today. It's the truth, I've known it all along." Erik looked at Devana who had moved behind Shaw "you are my creator. Mine and Devana's both." Erik maneuvered the piece of metal and removed Shaw's helmet "now, Charles!"

Charles latched onto Shaw and Devana along with Erik watched as Shaw froze reaching for his helmet. The metal beam fell from where it was pinning Erik to the wall. Erik walked to Devana and stood next to her in front of Shaw.

Erik and Devana looked at each other before Devana spoke "this is yours, Erik. I don't have to kill him to get my revenge. Just that he dies is enough. He's hurt you more than me."

Erik nodded and whispered the one word he didn't use very often "thanks." Erik grabbed the helmet from the air and placed it over his head effectively blocking out Charles while Devana let her eyes glow gold and mentally shielded herself.

Devana watched as Erik took the coin Shaw had given him all those years ago and held it to Shaw's forehead before pushing it through his head. Devana took notice of the fact that Charles held Shaw still the entire time even though he probably didn't approve.

Both mutants watched as the coin came out bloody and Shaw collapsed to the floor dead. Erik and Devana turned to each other before tentatively hugging each other as Devana spoke to Erik "it's over." They slumped in each other's arms not quite believing that the person they hated so much was dead. To them, it didn't feel real at least not yet.
