Chapter 5: Whatever?

Melody swung to her 'home'. She snuck into her bedroom window, just in case her mother was home.

Was she even going to check? Ha, no.

She quickly changed into a blue and white striped off-shoulder sundress and put her hair half-up and half-down.

After putting on her blue Jordan 1's and her lotion, she made her way to the Morales' rooftop party.

As she arrived, she was greeted with bossa nova-esque music and a loving family ambience. A few kids from the block waved or told Melody hi. She was about to join them but was suddenly pulled by Rio. "Hey, Mrs.Morales! Great party you got here!" Melody tried to avoid Rio asking-

"Have you seen Miles?"

Nevermind.

"He went to collect the cake, he'll be here any minute now!"

It had been ten minutes already. He didn't show up yet. 'What is taking him so long? I ordered it for him, it shouldn't take so long!'

Melody decided to text Miles to see what was going on.

Melody snapped back to reality and realized Rio wasn't next to her anymore, she was talking to one of her friends.

Melody's eyes widened and she snickered as she realized the friend was FORCING Rio to make a speech. She decided to go closer to hear as the friend clinked her glass to capture everyone's attention to Rio.

Rio awkwardly shifted around, "Um...hi." She looked around for Jeff or Melody, or just a way to get the hell out of there.

"What else can I say about Jeff? That he was almost ten pounds as a baby! I know, I know, you're gonna be embarrassed!" Melody cringed hard. She and Jeff found each other's faces among the crowd and exchanged scared and confused facial expressions.

She continued, mumbling, "He almost KILLED his mother, I mean, look at those shoulders!" Jeff took the immediate action to go and stop Rio before she said anything she probably shouldn't. He fought Rio subtly for the mic, "Okay!...No more mic for you." "Where is this kid..." Rio awkwardly gritted her teeth, looking around for Miles.

Jeff decided to share his speech. "You know, I never really knew what I wanted to be in life. I was pulled in a lot of different directions. I was young, you know, me and my brother just came up in this neighborhood like a bunch of knuckleheads running the street." He chuckled, "You guys used to chase us out of your stores and now I have to look out for you! And then, I had a kid...and everything changed for the better. I should be toasting you all."
