The Surprise

Summary: It's your one-year anniversary with Tech, and he has a big surprise for you. 

Warnings: None

     To your surprise, Tech is laying in bed next to you as you wake up. He's usually up by now; fixing the Marauder, creating new gadgets, or mapping a flight plan for your next mission. 

"Good morning, my love."

You smile, happy to see him. "Good morning, Tech. Why are you here? Not that I mind, of course, but it's just unusual."

"Today is a special day."

"A special day? You're making my nervous now, I feel like I should know what special day it is." 

Tech smiles slightly. "It is no matter. I remembered it by putting the date in the calendar on my datapad. Today is our one-year anniversary." 

"Is it the day we officially started dating? Or the day when I first met you." You tease.

Tech laughs softly. "The day we officially started dating." 

"One year..." You say quietly. "I'm surprised you've kept me around this long."

"Kept you around?" Tech responds. "Do you think I was planning to just get rid of you eventually?"

You shrug. "I'm dangerous. More dangerous in the beginning, but still. I thought I was too much of a liability."

"I will admit, I wasn't sure what would happen when we found you. I didn't expect to have these feelings for you. I thought that they would just go away so I could keep focusing. They never went away, though." 

"Are you upset about that?" You joke.

"Not in the slightest, my dear."

     After you both get dressed, you leave Tech's room. You see Omega. She's giggling about something. 

"What is it?" You ask.

Wrecker elbows her gently. "Omega..." 

"Nothing!" She responds. 

"...Okay?" You say slowly, still suspicious of the two of them. 

You pour yourself some caf and sit down by one of the Marauder's windows. 

Echo walks over to you. "We have a mission today."

"Where's the mission?"

"Raxus."

Raxus... That's where Tech and I met.

     After a few hours of keeping yourself busy with helping Tech create some new gadgets, you feel the ship land on Raxus. 

"So... Raxus, huh? What a coincidence." You say, making conversation with Tech.

"Indeed."

You watch as Tech puts on his armor. You see him pack some things into his backpack, many of them being the new gadgets you helped him build. You attach your lightsaber to your belt, putting on some of the light armor that Tech has made for you. 

"Ready?" You ask.

     He nods, following you off the Marauder. As you step on to the ground, you see the bustling city of Raxus. The planet is known for its beauty in its forests, but the city is certainly spectacular. Tech holds your hand as you follow the rest of the squad. One year ago today you met in the grand city of Raxus. The squad was on a mission here; not the one rescuing Senator Avi Singh, but one before that. They were looking for supplies here, and for good reason. Raxus trades with many other nearby planets and never seems to run low on any goods. The squad got in a skirmish with some Imperials in the city. You heard the shouting and helped them fight the Imperials. Wrecker stopped you before you could run away. You were upset at the time, but now you're happy that he did.

"Looking for supplies again?" You ask Hunter. 

"Yeah. However, there's something we need to get from the forests. It's a plant. We only need a few leaves, and it's hard to get, but it'll get us a lot of credits. Tech, you know how to navigate the forest. Take Y/N with you. She'll be able to sense any danger." 

Tech nods, turning around and heading towards the forest. 

Tech and I alone in a forest to get a plant? Was this what Omega was giggling about earlier?

     Tech has a marker on the map on his datapad. 

"So, what's this expensive plant we're looking for?"

"The Koboh Spiker."

You search your mind, trying to recall any information about the Koboh Spiker.

"That grows here?"

Tech nods, continuing to follow his map. 

You look behind you and notice the city beginning to get farther and farther away. You can see why Raxus is known for its forests; the lush, green leaves and moss on the ground are stunning. The tall trees mostly block the sun but let some rays of sunshine shine through. It's quiet here. The only sounds you can hear are you and Tech's footsteps and the chirping of birds and bugs. 

After a while, Tech's datapad beeps. "It seems that we have reached the location of the plant." 

"I'll start looking." You say.

"Good idea." Tech responds. "I will check to make sure that this plant isn't poisonous." 

You aren't seeing anything that looks remotely like the Koboh Spiker around here. 

"Y/N? Could you come here for a second?" Tech calls out.

"Sure." 

You begin to head back to Tech, unaware of what he has planned.

     When you find Tech, you see that he's taken his backpack and his helmet off. He seems to be holding something in his hand.

"Is everything alright?" You ask.

Tech blushes. "Yes, I- I'm really not good at this." 

He takes a deep breath and continues. "Y/N, I know we've only known each other for a year, but I believe we have a deep connection. I mean, you saved my life. You could've left me to die, but you risked your life to save mine. You're the only person who I believe truly understands me and loves me for who I am. I know I'm not perfect, and the Jedi Code advises against it, but..."

He opens his hand and reveals a ring. "Y/N L/N, will you marry me?"

You stand there for a moment, unable to say anything. Your eyes fill with happy tears. 

You smile. "Of course I will, Tech." 

Tech beams with happiness, you don't think you've ever seen him smile this much. He puts the ring on your left ring finger. You know that the Jedi Code doesn't allow marriage, but the Order doesn't really exist anymore. Even if it did, you wouldn't let that stop you from spending the rest of your life with Tech.

"It took many tries, but I finally found a way to make the ring. It is engraved with the coordinates of the place we met." 

You laugh slightly, wiping away your tears. "You mean that random street where we met?"

He nods, still beaming. 

"So this whole plant thing was a plan?" 

"Yes. I was worried you were going to find out that the Koboh Spiker doesn't grow here."

"I'm assuming this was also what Omega was laughing about this morning?" 

"It was. I was worried she was going to tell you..."

You hold Tech's hand as you walk back to the city to find the squad.

     You find the rest of the squad buying fruit and rations at one of the stores in the city.

Echo clears his throat. "Did you find the Koboh Spiker?"

"No, but something better happened." You say, holding out your left hand. 

Omega runs over and inspects your ring. "I was waiting all day for this!"

"I was quite worried you would tell my secret." Tech tells her. 

"What did you expect? It was so hard to keep it together!" 

"How long have you all known about this?" You ask.

"Tech told us a week ago so we could plan the 'mission'." 

"He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for Mrs. Tech over here." Crosshair adds. 

"We should celebrate." Hunter suggests. "Let's find somewhere in the city."

     You and your squad find a nice restaurant in the heart of the city. You all order many dishes. It'll cost a lot, but after all, today is a very special day. Tech keeps smiling at you during dinner. Echo stands up, holding out his drink. 

"To Tech and Y/N." 

Everyone clinks their glasses together once Echo finishes his toast. You can't believe that Tech will be your husband and that you'll be his wife. It'll take a while before you two can get married, (at least, if you want to get married officially) but you don't mind the wait. It'll all be worth it for the love of your life.
