Ben was at work and the kids were at school leaving Miranda alone in the house. She enjoyed the quiet for about 2 minutes but then decided she hated it. She turned on some music and thought about what to do. She made herself some breakfast and watched TV as she ate. As she sat she quickly realized being a stay at home was not for her. She realized it the day after she quit but she certainly wasn't going back to that hospital. She needed to find things to do to occupy her mind. Once she finished eating she cleaned up around the house before taking a shower and getting dressed. She made an appointment to get her hair done and she sat down to read some medical journals before it was time to go.
There was a knock on the door that surprised her. Who could be at her door? She placed the journal on the coffee table and walked over to the door standing on her tiptoes to look out the peephole. She was shocked to see Tucker standing there.
"Tucker" She opened the door
"Surprised to see you at home" He smiled
"I live here" She crossed her arms "Surprised to see you here"
"Tuck left his music folder at my house" He handed it to her
"Why didn't you just take it to the school"
"I wasn't sure if he had left. I swung by to see and when I saw your car truly I was curious why you were still home" He chuckled
"Well, thank you for this. He doesn't play anymore" She looked at the folder
"What since when"
"He is into sports now. He is working on strength and conditioning. He doesn't play his French horn much"
"Oh, I wasn't aware. He didn't even tell me"
"Ben does workouts with him and Joey" She nodded
"Right" Tucker scoffed
"Well bye" She put her hand on the door to close it but Tucker opened his mouth as if he had something else to say so she hesitated closing it
"Do you have plans for this weekend?" Tucker asked
"Not that I am aware of" She shrugged "Why"
"Can I switch weekends? We have a weekend getaway planned and want Tuck to come"
"Yes, that's fine" She nodded "I'll let Ben know"
"Why does Ben need to know what I do with my son" He asked
"Because he lives in this house with us Tucker. Ben needs to know that he won't be here this weekend" She sighed "Is that all you needed"
"Yes," He nodded sensing her attitude with him. She quickly closed the door before he could say anything else. He stood there briefly looking at the closed door before walking away. Miranda texted Tuck letting him know his dad wanted to spend the weekend with him and he told her he would call him at lunch. She also texted Ben. After handling that she grabbed her keys and got in her car. She sang along to the radio and just felt a sense of relaxation she hadn't felt in a while. She wasn't driving to the hospital where she was responsible for so much. The weight of Grey-Sloan Memorial and all the patients and doctors inside was no longer on her shoulders. Instead, as she drove all she thought about was her hair appointment. She thought about the last time she had a hair appointment.
As she parked her car, she took deep breaths and savored the moment, feeling grateful for the courage she had to leave behind a toxic job.
As she entered the salon, Miranda chose a new hairstyle that would best represent her new beginning. She wanted something bold and daring, a reflection of her newfound freedom. As the hairdresser worked her magic, Miranda felt all her stress and worries fade away. For a moment, she forgot all about her former job and the pressure that came with it.
