Derek did his best to explain this whole twenty-six tickets debacle while I drove us home.

I'd argue that twenty-six tickets warranted no additional explanation cause I mean at that point... you must do some time right?

Well of course my gorgeous passenger prince was able to still convince me of his innocence by the time we reached our home. This man had to be the devil reincarnate.

"So you see." He continued, "who's really in the wrong here? Me or that pho place having shit ass parking in downtown?"

I couldn't help but chuckle, unlocking the car doors for us before I followed him up the driveway towards the front door.

"Definitely the pho place." I nodded. "Call me when you go next, I'll wait in the car for us."

Derek turned back at that, smiling a goofy wide smile at that. It gave me a little more energy... Like I could at least muster up some for a little kissing and cuddling.

Derek stepped aside to let me unlock the door, but I just gestured to the thumb pad for him to. It was now the one fingerprint besides Christian and Brad's that gave him access to every part of my home. This was equivalent to giving him a master key, and I wanted him to abuse the absolute hell out of it.

Herold was the first to assault us, completely ignoring his advice to rest once he heard Derek's laughter fill our home.

"Down boy!" I ordered strictly, forcing him to stop climbing Derek like he usually did. The look he gave me once his feet hit the floor again told me that if he wasn't plotting on my downfall already, he was now.

"He's healing so well!" Derek gushed, setting our stuff we gathered from the precinct neatly on my coffee table before heading back to Herold again.

"Yeah I've been cooped up here all week keeping him alive. And I mean that. He got a random burst of 'what is life even worth anymore' which forced me near his side for the majority of the week. Herold has both the stubbornness and willpower to hold his breath until he dies, so I couldn't take any chances."

Derek's laughter only grew, but I was dead serious. One of the days during his healing period, Herold was so moody he even declined tuna. That's when I decided we were going to have to have a conversation about this, and that conversation resulted in me sleeping next to his cot since he couldn't jump up into my bed just yet.

Yeah I slept on the fucking floor for that cat. My spinal alignment will never be the same again.

"You're a good cat dad." Derek spoke, looking back at me a moment as he crouched down next to Herold.
