Chapter 12

"Congratulations... it's a boy!"

Umawang ang labi ko at agad na napangiti dahil sa sinabi ng doctor.

"It's a... he?"

Tumango ang doctor. "Yes, you are having a boy!"

I smiled and looked at Kale. Siya ang sinama ko dahil ayaw ko na abalahin pa si Gray sa trabaho. I didn't tell him about the check up either, he was asking me but I guess he forgot about it eventually too because he had a lot of work.

"Kale, I'm having a boy!"

He smiled and hugged me tight. "Congratulations, Lace..."

Hindi ko maipaliwanag ang excitement sa narinig mula sa doctor. These days, everything has been shit and I couldn't even work properly because I am taking care of my condition. I have been really looking forward to this because I wanted to find a reason to wake up everyday.

I kept staring at the ultrasound as we walked along the halls of the hospital. Napansin kong nakatitig lamang sa akin si Kale, a deep thought occupying his mind.

"You know... you really should've just asked him. Tingin ko naman sasamahan ka niya kahit abala yun sa trabaho." he told me. "It makes me feel a bit guilty, Lace. Ako ang unang nakaalam kaysa sa ama ng bata."

"We're not together, Kale. I know he deserves to know but I already been a burden to him these past few days. Hindi ako makalipat sa apartment dahil baka i-freeze ni Papa lahat ng properties ko, my bank accounts... savings and everything." I sighed. "Sobra pa sa sobra ang natulong niya sa akin and it's because of this baby..." I gently caressed my tummy.

Kale sighed. "Basta wala ako dyan ha, you asked me and I just accompanied you."

I rolled my eyes at him and nodded.

Hinatid ako sa bahay ni Kale  at agad din naman siya umalis. Hindi naman nagtaka ang Mama ni Gray kung bakit si Kale ang naghatid sa akin, she knew the two of us were close, tsaka ayos na rin naman silang dalawa ni Gray.

"Wala pa po si Gray?" I asked when I noticed the garage is still empty.

Tumango ito. "Overtime ata sa trabaho... kumain ka na, tara at naghanda ako ng prutas!" Mama Mabel beamed and gestured me to sit down.

Sinunod ko na siya at nagtungo roon. His mother cooks one of the best food I have ever tasted. She's been so good to me as well, kahit nakikitira lang ako dito.

I ate and waited at the living room for Gray arrived. Sinabihan ko rin si Mama Mabel na ako na ang maghahain para kay Gray pagdating nito.

"Sigurado ka, hija? Dito ka lang? Mamaya pa ata siya, baka kailangan mo na magpahinga?" tanong ni Mama Mabel.

I nodded. "I'm okay po, don't worry."

I told her that I'll wait for Gray to come home in the living room. Gusto ko ngayong araw niya malaman ang gender ni baby. Hindi ko lang talaga siya sinabihan na samahan ako dahil ayoko na makiabala. I saw his schedule and I don't want him to absent from his work for this.

Nagising ako ng maramdaman kong umangat ako mula sa sofa. I opened my eyes and saw Gray's tired face. Binuhat niya ako mula sa kinahihigaan ko. I didn't even know I was asleep.

"Gray... hey, wait. Put me down."

Napansin niyang nagising ako at binaba ako agad. Pansin sa mga mata niya ang antok at pagod.

"Lacey... hindi mo na ako dapat hinintay. Nagpahinga ka na sana." he told me.

Inayos ko ang gusot ng damit ko at ngumiti sa kanya. "Uh, I can't... I waited for you because I have to show you something."
