"Not happening. Nope. Not a chance in hell." Click.
"That's the third person I asked to work for me. No one wants to cover my shift. I even asked Albert, whom I cover for all the time and he wouldn't do this for me. So much for returning the favor. What am I going to do?" I sat in the living room watching Christy own someone in an online game.
"Well, you can...Oh, don't you start with me punk...always...dude I'm on your team...ask Kat if she would...grenade!!" Ah yes, the melodic language of a gamer.
"That's yours and her date night. I couldn't do that to her. Could I?"
"Do you like this-Bitch!"
"I do! I've only seen her two times and both times my heart wants to jump out of my chest. Not to mention the loss of words and the rambling."
"Awww-found the camper! And that's game! Quid pro quo Jim."
"Meaning?"
"This for that. I scratch your back, you scratch mine."
"No, I know what it means. I mean, what did you want?"
"You know what I want." She looked at me with a mischievous glare in her eye.
"Christy!! No!! I can't do that to Kat! She'd kill me!! You know that."
"Come on! Just this once. And I won't tell her if you don't." She hopped onto my lap and hugged me as flirtatiously as she could.
"Fine. But you have to tell her and share too. You get her to cover for me on Friday and you get your Chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter filling." Christy and Kat love my cupcakes, especially my chocolate and peanut butter ones. But one time, Kat caught Christy eating an entire batch by herself that I made just for her. Needless to say, she wasn't happy that she didn't get any. So she made me promise not to make them unless both of them got some.
"Really? What about two batches? One for just me and the other for me to share with Kat?"
"You're playing a dangerous game now. How about one batch and you only share as much as you want to with her?"
"Deal!!" She kissed my cheek, hugged me, and hopped off. "But I want them right before you go Friday. Kat will be home to have a few of them, I think."
"The things I do for you girls. Alright, Friday it is. Thanks again, Chris. I really appreciate it."
She hugged me from behind the couch. "Of course sweetie! I would've done it for free. I haven't seen you like this ever before."
"Then why are you making me do something I know I'll get in trouble over?"
"Hey!If I can get some sweetness out of it, I'm taking advantage of it."
I sat on the couch looking up at the ceiling thinking to myself 'Great, Kat's going to kill me.' I closed my eyes for a few seconds. As I did, all I could see was Tina smiling and laughing. 'It was worth it. No doubt in my mind.' I smiled, thinking about her, then proceeded to get up and check what I needed from the store for my cupcakes.
Friday Night
"So...you're going on a date tonight?" Kat asked while getting ready for work.
"Yeah.I'm nervous. I haven't had a date in a while."
"What are you going to wear?"
"I was thinking, how about what I'm wearing now?" I was in a pair of sneakers, my favorite pair of pants, a band t-shirt, and a backward hat.
Kat gave me a once over with her face scrunched up. "You have to be joking with me right now," she said in disgust.
"What?"
