CHAPTER FIVE :
SUNLIGHT blinded her eyes as she woke up startled, sitting up in a bed that wasn't hers in a large room with tall glass pane windows. She blinked a couple of times, adjusting her vision. She wore the same clothes as yesterday, her denim jacket hanging on a coat hook attached to an ajar door. Dry, thankfully. Mr Gold driving, one night, pasta, and.. nothing? Huh. Why can't I remember? I hate this feeling.
The girl kicked the duvet off her, her feet hovering just above the wooden floor as she turned to stand up. She stared at her feet for a moment, they were scarred. Multiple, little cuts so faded you could hardly see them if you weren't looking. She assumed that they were just from her being clumsy, from her running about carelessly. However for some reason, now? She wasn't so sure.
Elizabeth stood up, stretching as she did so. She started walking out of the room, the floor boards creaking under her. She slowly made her way down the stairs, hearing movement from the kitchen. She stood in the door way silent, observing the man.
"Tea? " She mused, him turning around. "I can't remember the last time I had tea."
"I can." He mumbled.Mr Gold pursed his lips, narrowing his eyes as he turned around to pour tea in a mug. Not a teacup. She took a meek step forward, hugging herself as she did so. Elizabeth leaned against the kitchen island, staring straight at the man.
"Did I..have too much to drink last night?" She asked awkwardly, looking away for a moment. "I presume I did, my heads killing and I can't remember a thing."
He chuckled, pushing the tea towards her. "You were ill, very sick. " He placed both hands on his cane. "You went to bed early after taking some medicine." She nodded, mumbling a quick 'ah.' As she sipped the tea, he eyed her mug as she did so.
"Peppermint and apple?" He smiled softly, nodding at the blonde. "My favorite, how did you know?" He shrugged. Strolling around the island, he stood closer to her.
"I knew someone who liked it a long time ago." He stated, grimacing down at the tea. She tilted her head, worried eyes staring at him.
"..some one you loved?" She questioned, he smiled bitterly.
"Some one who I thought loved me. " Mr Gold shook his head, turning to lean his back on the counter. "But she couldn't. So she left."Elizabeth frowned, looking down into the contents of the tea. "That's horrible, I can't imagine ever doing that to someone." He glared at her with brown dark eyes.
"Oh I'm sure you can."
.
THE GIRL DUSTED the shabby curtains, balancing on one leg on a very, very tall ladder. Elizabeth huffed, regaining her balance as she held onto the top bar of the ladder. The blonde turned her head to observe Rumple down below, who was spinning gold, a sound and action she had gotten used to after the first couple of weeks."You must get tired of that." She said, tilting her head to him. He glanced back at her and shook his head,
"I don't." He said, almost grimly. She nodded, still looking at the wheel.
"It's almost hypnotic isn't it?"Elizabeth said, smiling slightly. "..you spin so much gold that it's impossible to spend it all...why?" The girl questioned, leaning her head slightly against the wall.He tilted his head, clicking his tongue. "I like to watch the wheel.Helps me forget." She gazed at the man below her, she knew what is was like. Wanting to forget . Wanting to forget the years and years and years of being that dreaded creature, of being alone, abused. Isolated.
"..forget what exactly?"
She asked, pausing for a moment.".." He flashed a smile, "I guess it worked!" He giggled, causing the girl to laugh with him. I like him. Wait, what? She went back to tugging the curtains. He stared at her for a moment, before getting up slowly and strolling over to her. His dark eyes eyed up at her, slight worry in his eyes as she tugged. "What are you attempting to do exactly?"
"Bloody hell! You've nailed these down haven't you?"
He shrugged, "Yeah." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. She laughed, tilting her head back slightly when her foot hanging onto the ladder slipped sending her falling. The girl yelped, closing her eyes for the imminent impact, expecting to land on the cold, harsh floor. But she didn't. Instead she landed in his arms, opening his eyes to meet his. The two paused, staring at each other for a moment. Appreciating each other for a silence, him tracing her face: tiny, tiny scars littered her face. She had dimples, he guessed from smiling too much.
She looked over his, his eyes were beady, lines around them from scowling, glaring so much. But there was a certain amount of kindness behind them, and she smiled. "Thank you."He suddenly let go of her, almost throwing her to her feet making her chuckle. "..that was very kind, thank you." He stood staring at her, an unreadable expression laced on her face. She looked back to the now open window, the sunlight basking her in gold as she went to grab some of the curtains fabric. "It looks lovely out there doesn't it? Although I can, put them back..if your-"
"No, no. You're right." He looks over her, her hair almost glowing in the sunlight. "It is beautiful."
She looked down, a bashful smile on her face.
