CHAPTER NINE:

A QUEEN'S BALL. One might've thought Elizabeth would've been dancing the night away with many suitors, being twirled and drinking herself silly with drink and conversation. However, this was hardly the case. She instead, once bored of the many "ah how are you?" "May we dance?" And "it's terrible what happened to your mother." Elizabeth strolled along the palace gardens, her heels clicking gently on the cobblestone path. For it being Cora's ball, she didn't see her. Not even a glimpse! She guessed she was busy with other people, more important people than her. Nether the less the gardens full of roses and lilacs became the highlight of her evening, till she ended up strolling too far with her thoughts somewhere else. She had now ended up in the forest outside the palace, how she ended up there? She couldn't tell you. Too many left turns, or right turns, or..well she didn't know. But the fact was, she was now alone in the enchanted forest, alone and in ridiculously uncomfortable shoes. Not thinking about it, she awkwardly hitched up the mountains of tulle and organza, kicking off her white delicate heels, the discomfort almost instantly easing as she did.
The blonde (stupidly may I add) walked further into the forest, a dazed look in her eyes as she observed the waving trees and the way the forest hummed with magic. She had heard of magic before, but never seen it in the flesh. Elizabeth was so mesmerised she didn't realise how cold she actually was, walking further into and reaching a clearing where a large glimmering lake was. She gasped audibly, the lake looked like it was made of diamond dust with how much it sparkled, and the swans that swam across it were single handily the most elegant thing she had even seen.
She walked further towards the lake, her dress gathering dirt as it dragged against the gown. "Beautiful isn't it?" A voice interrupted her, causing her to turn back instantly and gasp in shock.
"Oh! Cora, how lovely to see you-"
"Enjoying the swans?" She cut in, walking towards the lake, her blood red dress trailing her. The blonde nodded, a polite smile lacing her lips as she took a step to the side to let Cora come next to her.
"Very much so." She admitted, a sheepish smile on her face. "My mother, she loved them. Said they were beautiful.""Well, she was right about that at least." Cora muttered.
