CHAPTER SIX: PASTS
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT?" Elizabeth barely shouted as she was dragged into Gold's shop. He held onto her forearm tightly as he did so, "You can't just do-"He leaned in, his expression dark as he looked down at the blondes shocked face. "I'm going to make you, remember." He grinned darkly, "And you're going to explain, everything."
The girl shook her head as she managed to struggle out of his grip, red impressions left on her forearm. "What do you mean everything? Gold -"
He stomped to the back of the shop, past her and the front counter. The girl looked around the shop for a moment, should I like..grab something? A weapon..? Or..? She didn't have time to however, as the taller man came out with a large leather bound book. As he slammed it on the table, Elizabeth stumbled backwards. "Gold stop it-"
"Miss White.." He started, a sickly sweet tone in his voice. "In this world, you think you're all innocent and kind and special." He spat out, gritting his teeth before making his way towards the girl who leant against a cabinet against the wall. "And I have to admit, I started to think that. " He was about six three foot away from her now, she didn't know wether to keep eye contact or to look away. She was expecting herself to feel scared, shaking with fear. But she wasn't, it was if her body and mind knew something she didn't . "Then I just had to remind myself, " Gold was about an arms length away now, towering above her, a sick grin and a look in his eyes she didn't recognize. He stood an inch away from her now, grabbing her chin roughly to turn her gaze to his, leaning his face closer to hers. "You're nothing but a dirty swan."
IT WAS RARE, AN EVNING LIKE THIS. Elizabeth usually always had something to clean, something to dust or wipe (usually it was blood) and Rumple usually always was caught up with making deals and mixing up ingredients, threatening, torturing...the list goes on until this evening where he was just spinning.Elizabeth wouldn't care to admit it, but she liked the repetitive sound. It was almost, relaxing as she read whatever book she had stolen from the room she stumbled in last time. He acted like he didn't notice.
The blonde laid against the cushioned sofa, her eyes running over every last word on the page. He sat spinning, the straw, now gold, passing swiftly through his calloused fingers. Rumple's eyes would wonder over to the girl once and a while, curiosity always over coming him and his mind. Elizabeth took a deep breath, smiling as she took the book and looked over it with satisfaction. " I must've loved reading." He looked over to her properly, gold still passing through his fingers.
"Must've?" He questioned , before nodding in realization and returning his focus to the spinning wheel. "Right, before your curse." She mirrored him, nodding and returning her own soft gaze to the book cover. She grazed her scarred thumb over it carefully, her smile gone from her face as her mind flashed back to her swan days.
"I can't remember much before I was a swan," She mumbled, not sure whether she was talking to herself or to Rumple. If this was anyone else, he usually would've shut them up instantly. But weirdly enough, he wanted to listen. He wanted to listen to her every word, know her thoughts, know her inside and out and the story behind every scar and decision she made. The brown haired man had stopped spinning, twisting the strand of gold in his hand as he listened to her melodic voice. "All I did for years was swim and float, and did my best to.." She trailed off, biting the inside of her cheek. "So reading is a nice change." She finished off with a smile.Rumple turned around in his chair, facing the girl. Who sat up herself to face him quickly, like a solider standing to attention. "And you're also smiling," She observed, "That's also a nice change." His smile dropped, causing a laugh to come out of her.
"I'm impressed with how hard you're trying to, weaken me." He said as he stood up, after a pause.Elizabeth stood up after he did so, he walked towards her quickly , she furrowed her eyebrows, about to say something before before tightening his hand around her throat, twisting to hold her up against the wall. Elizabeth attempted to gasp but failed, grasping onto Rumple's wrist in an attempt to get some air.
"S-stop it!" She managed to get out , he grinned. Finally, a smidge of anger out of the seemingly perfect swan.
"Mm," Rumple hummed, taking in her narrowed eyes and slightly agape mouth. "Now this, this suits you perfectly. Fighting me." She was sure her neck would be prominently bruised after this, if not worse.His eyes were dark as the night, concentrated on her like only she was what mattered. "Fear is gorgeous on you."
"Save it." She spat out, I've been kind. Been, caring and he doesn't believe me? A wave of faintness came over her as she clutched onto his wrist a bit tighter, he loosened his grasp slightly on her.He rose his hand, gently caressing her pink cheeks;
"Oh dearie, you should know kindness costs when I'm here. Everything does." He dropped her, a large gasp coming out of her as she clutched her throat; regaining the air to her lungs as she slowly looked up to him from on the floor. She didn't say anything this time, not a kind word or rebuttal. The two stared at each other, her eyes wide looking at him touching her neck slightly. He turned away, not daring himself to look at her. "Move."
