I looked at the large wolf fox at my feet. I was speechless.

"Uh..."

"Rift sorry. Rift thought you were a human who attacked with blue hair but the attacker's hair is much darker so Rift allows judgment upon himself."

"Look, it's ok. You just surprised me. It's all cool, big guy!" I felt super awkward.

The energy in my body faded, making me even more tired.

The wolf fox looked up. "If you won't punish Rift then Rift offers to be guardian for human."

"Wait, what?"

The boy walked over with Lexus.

"Let's all calm down and go back to where you and deer fox boy were camping first, ok? Then we'll sort this all out, ok?"

That was agreeable, so I gave a nod.

It wasn't a far walk but when we got back the fire had gone out due to being untended plus the rain had now stopped.

The boy started it while I fixed my tent.

I walked out to see everyone.

"So, I'll start by introducing myself." I cleared my throat.

"I'm Mason. This is Lexus. We're from Dragon Rise Village out on an adventure to Volt City."

Lexus hopped on my shoulder and waved.

"Hey," he eyed the wolf fox with caution.

The wolf fox rose to speak before the boy did.

"I Rift, proud warrior from high north. Was looking to survive in the wild when Rift fell into the ocean and washed ashore here."
He gave a wide happy smile

The boy got up.

"I'm uh...oh gosh, where to begin?"

He cleared his throat. His voice was super deep.

"Hi, I'm Adair. Uh, I hail from Volt City. Left home to become an adventurer but so far have had rotten luck."

We all chatted onwards into the night before going to sleep.

It was sudden running into them, but meeting people outside the village on my first journey gave me the confidence that I needed then.

That night I had a different type of dream.

I was walking alone on a road by myself.

"What is this place?"

I saw a town all broken up and ruined.

Just then I saw a girl walk past me.

"Is there nothing here but oblivion waiting for me?" she said after stopping a few feet away from me.

I walked up to her. She had long blue hair, fair skin, and was dressed in a dress that was one-half black and one-half white, shoes, gloves, and all.

I called out to her but got no response.

Her eyes were blue, much like her hair.

She looked sad.

Just then I woke with Lexus in my face.

"You ok? You were tossing and turning so much you woke me up."

I got up and told him I was fine.

Walking over I saw that Altair had their own smaller tent made with him sleeping in it. It looked a bit poorly made.

I heard loud snoring and looked over to see that humongous wolf fox, Rift, lying on the grass with nothing but a large leaf that I don't know where he found as a blanket.

Looking up, it wasn't even dawn yet so I went back to sleep.

When morning came, I decided to give everyone a proposition.

"Morning," Altair said, yawning.

Rift still slept, so Lexus decided to poke him in his left pec with a stick.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," I said to Lexus.

"Oh relax. It'll work-"

Rift shot up, grabbed Lexus, and tossed him away high in the air.

"Ahhhhhh!"

Altair and I looked up. "Dang, he's got a throwing arm."

Rift got up and shook his head.

"Rift hates being disturbed but knows it's time to get up."

Lexus landed a few feet away.

After having some forged fruit and roots that were edible that I was raised to find since I was way little, we had a brief breakfast before I gave my proposition.

"Hey, since Lexus and I are heading to Volt City, could you show us the way there, Altair?"

He nodded. "Sure, I was only thinking of heading back home anyways, and I'm assuming you're taking the big vulpine canine thing here?"

I eyed Rift and gave a nervous smile. "I think I'm kind of roped in with that, but still, it's better than traveling alone. What do you think?"

He nodded. "Besides I don't have a lot of friends and the ones I do have don't like going out into the world like I do, so this could be fun."

We looked at Rift, who smiled.

"Rift is not great at directions, so definitely will need help finding a way through the world. Plus Rift owe human-"

"Just call me Mason," I said.

"Right Jason. So Rift is happy to come along."

I rolled my eyes but smiled.

Lexus was still anxious about the giant wolf fox we had in our company, but I could tell he too thought that we definitely couldn't do this journey alone, so after we finished with agreements we packed up and started our journey throughout EchoStar.
