Walking on with Lexus on my shoulder, I looked around at the old ruins crumbling around the sands at the beach.

Climbing over a huge stone ruin wall, I looked around my surroundings, as did Lexus.

“Sigh. Don’t you remember last time you took me to a ruin not far from here? I got struck with a poison dart that left me paralyzed for 5 days!” he spat

“And I was the one who told you to watch your step to begin with,” I argued.

Going down through a tunnel after going down some steep steps, it was dim inside and water was leaking from the ceiling, getting up to my feet almost.

“Man, whoever built this place didn’t account for water. Look at all those cracks.” Lexus said.

Eventually it got so deep with water I had to start swimming.

“You’re lucky I learned to swim last month.” Lexus said with a grin

“After 562 attempts, yeah.” Mason said in a cheeky tone

“Shut up.”

I chuckled.

Eventually we came through the tunnel and found solid ground.

Getting out, Lexus shook like a wet dog.

He went to go nag me again, but turned and saw what I was looking at.

“Would you look at that,” I said.

A towering elf statue loomed over us.

It was a female who looked inspirational and determined, judging from the expression she wore on her face.

“Woah, she’s beautiful,” I said, blushing.

Lexus blew a raspberry. “Eh, I prefer dominant muscular chicks.”

The room with the statue was very small and snapped, so it was a little disappointing seeing just that after looking around.

While I was inspecting the statue thoroughly for anything interesting other than its appearance, Lexus caught my attention.

“Hey, look what I found!”

He held up a shiny pearl amulet with a heart-shaped gem in the center.

It gave off a mysterious glow.

“Great find, buddy.”

I turned down my light that I had for salvaging that was built into a collar I wore around my neck.

I picked up the amulet and looked it over.

Its glow fascinated me.

All the sudden, a light burst from it, enveloping me.

Images filled my head before clearing instantly, before I could even piece together what I saw.

After the light cleared the statue started to move, revealing a hidden stairway.

Going deep underground I saw a room that surprised us both.

“Who knew this was down here?” I said

It was an old room, but it looked completely untouched by the elements. Not even a speck of dust was down here.

Stained glass windows filled the room, depicting elves, humans, dragons, and beastmen - the known species of our world.

“Wow! This is a major discovery!!” I said with excitement.

I pulled out my echo device, a circular communicator that also managed my echo crystals. It was something my adopted dad bought me when I was 16. It was a device that could capture moments depicted in paintings and it could also communicate through radios and stuff.

Clicking a button to turn it on, a hologram appeared from the top, showing me the menu of the device. I selected the camera function and took a few pictures of the room.

“Maybe dad won’t be quite as mad once we show him this,” Lexus said.

The whole room was amazing, but one thing caught my attention more than anything else.

At the center of the room atop a pedestal was a blade that was shaped differently than any other blade I had seen.

Walking up to it, I looked over it carefully. Just a little down from the handle around the center part was a circular area that only was half of a circle, a c shape facing to the left.

As I got close, I felt a sensation overtake me. It was strange but it felt familiar somehow.

“Mason wait! That could be a trap!”

For once I ignored Lexus and touched it. Something told me I had to.

And when I did, something different happened. Something that set everything into motion.
